Selected for the 1991/2 England 'A' tour of Bermuda and West Indies, but withdrew through glandular fever.
Scored 130 for Lancashire in his fourth first-class match, the youngest centurion for the county in 30 years.
Equalled then world record with 11 catches in a match v Derbyshire at Chesterfield in 1989.
Recalled to the Test squad this winter after winning two caps at Melbourne and Sydney on his maiden senior tour to Australia in 1998-99.
Appointed captain of Lancashire this October.
