Born in Pakistan, but emigrated with his family to England when he was six years-old. His younger brother Aqib has played for England Under 15s.
Made his Test debut against Australia at Edgbston this summer. Scored a maiden Test half-century (52), and took his first Test wicket, (with only his third ball) in the final Ashes Test at the AMP Oval
Made a career-best 151 not out against a Worcestershire line-up featuring Glenn McGrath in a championship match at Trent Bridge in 2000.
Has wintered overseas for Victoria Park CC in Perth.
