Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2025 match No. 42 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
RCB, who are fourth on the points table with five wins from eight matches, will be desperate to register their first win at home, whereas RR will be heading into the clash on the back of two heart-breaking losses.
In their previous outings - against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) - RR fell tantalizingly short of victory, failing to score nine runs off the last six balls on both occasions.
To make matters worse, their regular skipper Sanju Samson has been ruled of the RCB match due to an abdominal injury.
In his absence, they will be led by Riyan Parag who was in charge at the start of the season.
When they take on a confident RCB, all eyes will be on teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The 14-year-old became the youngest player to make his IPL debut in the last match after coming on as an Impact Player.
He announced his arrival in an emphatic fashion, delivering a 20-ball 34.
Royals, however, come into the game on a four-match losing streak.
They have lost 6 of their eight matches so far and are languishing at the 8th spot on the 10-team table with four points and a poor net run-rate.
One more defeat will virtually end their playoff ambitions.
On the other hand, RCB have 10 points from 8 games and a couple of wins in the remaining fixtures will help them clinch a playoff spot.
They will be more than happy to host a struggling Royals at this stage to put their home record straight and pocket two crucial points. Importantly, there are no injury concerns in their camp.
In IPL history, RCB have won 16 out of the 30 matches played between the two teams.
RCB will be high on confidence coming into the game, having beaten Punjab Kings by seven wickets in an away fixture.
Their batters will have another chance to adapt to the tacky Chinnaswamy surface and find the right tempo to get to a decent total.
In all three previous home matches, RCB had to settle for below-par scores after their batters failed miserably to deal with quality spin attacks.
When RR hosted RCB in their home-leg match on April 13, the visitors beat them handsomely by nine wickets, chasing down a 174-run target with 15 balls to spare, thanks to a 33-ball 65 by man-of-the-match Phil Salt.
