Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2025 match No. 13 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Batters of both LSG and PBKS have played an aggressive brand of cricket so far. Their bowlers have also performed reasonably well.
LSG began the new season with a narrow loss to Delhi Capitals. In their second match, they bounced back with a five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
PBKS, on the other hand, kicked off their campaign with a bang, edging Gujarat Titans by eleven runs in a high-scoring encounter, led by captain Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 97.
Medium pacer Shardul Thakur has played a vital role for LSG, picking up six wickets in two matches. Nicholas Pooran has been their batting mainstay, scoring consecutive fifties. He has accumulated 145 runs across two innings at a stupendous strike-rate of 258.92.
For PBKS, apart from skipper Shreyas, Shashank Singh and Priyansh Arya also made valuable contributions with the bat. Their bowling unit also did a decent job in the high-scoring game against GT.
While Shreyas, the second-most expensive player in IPL history at Rs 26.75 crore, will look to continue his fine form, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant, the costliest player with a record-breaking Rs 27 crore-bid, has an opportunity to make amends for his poor show with the bat, as he has scores of 0 and 15 in the first two matches.
PBKS flaunt a diverse bowling lineup that could thrive on the spin-friendly Ekana pitch. Their bowling attack will be spearheaded by Team India pacer Arshdeep Singh. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and offie Glenn Maxwell will be their main spin weapons. If the team management decides to go for an additional spinner, Harpreet Brar might get the nod.
LSG's bowling unit, on the other hand, lacks experience. However, Thakur has effectively led the young attack featuring the likes of Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi.
Since Punjab's batting line-up is loaded with right-handers, LSG might opt for a left-arm spinner either Shahbaz Ahmed or M Siddharth - in place of all-rounder Abdul Samad.
The teams have faced each other four times in the IPL so far. LSG hold an upper hand with three wins whereas PBKS has won only once.
The average first-innings score at the venue is 169.
As Lucknow welcomes the IPL 2025, a thrilling contest is on the cards.
