The next one keeps low and Stokes guides it down to third man for a single.

Dawson then defends stoically.

Another dot later, Dawson is hit high on the pad as he misses the clip. Big shout for LBW, no says the umpire. India don't review.

Another dot to end the over as 1 run comes off it.

Siraj opens at the other end and comes around the wicket to Stokes with a good length ball around the off stump that is well defended by Stokes.

Stokes then comes down the track and punches the length ball through the off side for a four.

Stokes then clips the ball to mid-wicket for a single. 550 up for England.

Dawson then plays and misses as Siraj bowls a ball in the off stump channel to beat the batter.

Dawson then clips the ball to mid-wicket for a dot.

Dawson then defends the ball to the leg side for another dot as 5 come off it.

Stokes and Dawson come out to bat as Bumrah opens the attack from around the wicket on Day 4 and Stokes starts with three dots  before he plays it to mid-wicket and scampers for a quick single.

Kamboj tries to run out Stokes but the England captain is well inside his crease.

Bumrah now over the wicket to Dawson who defends nicely. He then plays the next ball to the leg side for a dot.

Eng 544-7 (135 ovs) vs Ind 358 | Scorecard

Welcome to the Updates from Day 4 of the 4th Test at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday.

England captain Ben Stokes, who resumed his innings after going out retired hurt on Friday, is inching closer to his 14th Test ton.

India will look to bowl out England early so as to give themselves enough time to bat and eventually set the hosts a target with 6 sessions left.

With conditions overcast the ball is expected to move a bit but England spinner Dawson will look to use the cracks in the pitch to his advantage.

Joe Root moved to second in the all-time test run scorer charts with a superb 150 to put England in control on day three of the fourth Test against India on Friday, with the hosts 544-7 at the close of play, giving them a first innings lead of 186 runs.

Yorkshire batter Root strolled to a staggering 38th test hundred, before passing another milestone in climbing above former Australia captain Ricky Ponting into second place in the all-time list as he reached 121 not out just before tea.

England skipper Ben Stokes, plagued by injuries in recent years, retired hurt with cramp in the evening session when on 66, safe in the knowledge his side would remain in the driving seat in his absence.

Root eventually was stumped off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja, but the damage to India's resolve had been done.

Jamie Smith and Chris Woakes followed Root back to the pavilion, with Stokes re-emerging to add more runs to his total, finishing the day unbeaten 77, alongside Liam Dawson on 21.
