Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2025 match No. 47 between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, April 28, 2025.
After a disappointing campaign last year, GT have shown excellent form this season and are in a strong position to push for the playoffs. They have won six out of their first eight games and are currently placed second on the points table with a healthy NRR.
With 12 points already in their kitty, two more wins from their remaining six games will take them to 16 points, the desired mark for a playoff spot.
GT flaunt a balanced squad with a potent top-order and have arguably the most complete bowling unit in IPL 2025.
Skipper Shubman Gill looks in good nick with the willow. His opening partner Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler, who is only 62 away from 4,000 IPL runs, are among the most consistent top-order batters in IPL 2025.
On the bowling front, Prasidh Krishna is second in the purple cap race with 16 wickets at a decent economy rate of 7.29, while Mohammad Siraj has been impressive, especially in the Powerplay, tallying 12 wickets with best figures of 4-17.
Tweaker Sai Kishore has also been exceptional for them, scalping 12 wickets at an economy of 8.22 to be eighth on the bowling charts.
GT will be heading into the clash on the back of a dominant 39-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
Moreover, they have a strong record against RR in the IPL, with 6 wins out of 7 matches.
In contrast, RR are not mathematically out of the playoff race, but their chances are significantly diminished. To qualify, they would need to win all their remaining five matches and potentially rely on other results going their way.
Currently, they are reeling at ninth spot with two wins from nine matches.
Even if they win all the remaining games, they will only reach 14 points, which may not be enough for a playoff berth, especially with other teams vying for those spots.
Against GT, the Riyan Parag-led side will be looking to halt a five-match losing streak, with three of those defeats coming in after being in a seemingly winning position.
Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is 37 away from 2,000 IPL runs, their batting has been a major let down.
The other main batters, including Parag, Nitish Rana, Dhruv Jurel, and Shimron Hetmyer, performed only in patches, and their bowling unit, led by Jofra Archer, has struggled to deliver under pressure.
They will be tempted to bring Sri Lankas Maheesh Theekshana back into the mix against GT as the conditions in Jaipur are conducive for spin.
An exciting contest is on the cards as GT will be looking to move closer to securing a playoff berth and the beleaguered RR are desperate to end the season on a high.
