Hello and welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2026 Qualifier 2 between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans at the New International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh, Mullanpur.
The winners of this high-stakes game will take on Royal Challenges Bengaluru in the final in Ahmedabad on May 31.
GT's new-ball attack vs Sooryavanshi
The Titans’ strong pace attack, led by Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, faces a tough challenge against Royals’ teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who has become the biggest talking point of the tournament.
Sooryavanshi stunned everyone in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad with a breathtaking 97 off just 29 balls and will once again be central to Rajasthan’s hopes of reaching the final.
In the previous meeting between the two teams, Siraj dismissed Sooryavanshi with a short ball after being hit for a six. Rabada too struggled against the youngster’s aggressive batting. The Titans bowlers are expected to target the short-ball weakness again, as Sooryavanshi has been dismissed in that manner several times this season.
The Mullanpur pitch is expected to favour batters once again, and the Royals will hope Sooryavanshi continues his explosive form. Along with him, Jofra Archer remains a key player for Rajasthan after his match-winning performance in the Eliminator.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has not had the same impact due to Sooryavanshi’s remarkable rise, while Dhruv Jurel has played useful knocks at number three. Captain Riyan Parag, however, admitted that Rajasthan failed to finish strongly against Hyderabad despite being in a position to cross 250.
Titans look to regroup after heavy RCB thrashing
For Gujarat Titans, this is another opportunity to reach the IPL final after suffering a heavy defeat to RCB in Qualifier 1.
Much will depend on their top-order trio of captain Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. The Titans have relied heavily on the consistency of these batters throughout the season, but questions remain over the middle and lower order.
Their bowling attack has been their biggest strength this year, though it struggled badly in the death overs against Bengaluru. Gujarat will also need to improve their fielding after a disappointing display in the previous game.
The Titans will take confidence from Rahul Tewatia’s late-order runs in the last match, but overall they know their bowlers must return to their best if they are to stop the Royals’ momentum.
Despite the extreme heat in the city, another big crowd is expected in Mullanpur as fans hope to witness another special innings from the young Sooryavanshi.
The match will be broadcast live on Star Sports from 7.30 pm IST, while JioHotstar will stream the match in multiple languages.
