IPL 2026, LSG vs DC Updates: LSG crumble; DC on top

Shahbaz Ahmed is the new man in and he hits one from Kuldeep in the air but the ball lands safely. No run on offer. 

Shahbaz then gets off the mark with a gentle push to wide of cover for a single. 

A couple through mid-wicket region follows.

T Natarajan is back into the attack and after a dot and a single Abdul Samad breaks the shackles by hoisting a half-volley over cow corner for a huge six. 

Six more! Low full toss and Samad hits it over the bowler's head for a maximum.

Axar Patel is back with his third over and concedes just four singles as Abdul Samad and Mukul Choudhary play it safe. 

Vipraj Nigam comes into the attack and Samad hit back-to-back boundaries before picking up a single to bring Choudhary back on strike. 

A single through mid-wicket follows before Samad gets a couple by driving one wide of cover.

Four! Samad guides the slower bouncer from Natarajan through third man for a boundary.

Kuldeep Yadav is back and he strikes straightaway! Mukul Choudhary pushes one straight back to the bowler and Kuldeep grabs it gleefully.

Choudhary goes for 14 off 11 balls with two boundaries. 

Kuldeep Yadav continues and Mitchell Marsh greets him with a huge six over the cow corner.

Out! Marsh departs, caught by Tristan Stubbs. Kuldeep strikes and sends back the dangerous Marsh. Slower delivery and Marsh attempts to smash it over long-off but fails to get the elevation and Stubbs takes a safe catch.

Marsh departs for a 25-ball 38 with two boundaries and three sixes. 

Mukul Choudhary is the new man in and he gets of the mark by sweeping Kuldeep for a boundary. 

Attempted sweep but ends up top-edging it for another boundary.

LSG are 80/5 at the half-way mark. 

Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack and Nicholas Pooran sweeps the first delivery firmly through the gap between deep square leg and mid-wicket for a boundary. 

Tries to sweep again but misses. 

A single through deep mid-wicket follows before Mitchell Marsh gets a single through mid-wicket.

Lungi Ngidi is back into the attack with his second and Pooran steers one to cover and gets a single. 

A dot later, Marsh smashes one over long-on for a maximum.

Out! Pooran goes, clean-bowled by Ngidi. Excellent off-cutter and Pooran leans forward to play it over the bowler's head but the ball stays low and sneaks through his legs. Big blow for LSG.

Abdul Samad comes to the crease and survives an LBW appeal. DC review the on-field decision of not out. Wickets missing, shows the ball-tracker. DC lose a review.

Ayush Badoni then hits one straight to the fielder at mid-off.

Out! Badoni perishes, caught by KL Rahul. Good length ball outside off and Badoni half-heartedly attempts to drive but edges it to the keeper.  

Badoni goes for a three-ball duck. 

Nicholas Pooran is the new man in and after a dot he gets off the mark with a single through off-side. 

A dot to end the 2-run over. 

Axar Patel continues and starts off with a dot before conceding a boundary (leg byes). 

Aiden Markram then hoists him over long-on for a maximum. 

Out! Axar cleans up Markram with a beauty. Full delivery on stumps and Markram makes room and attempts to cut it but misses completely. LSG are two down. 

Ayush Badoni comes to the crease and plays the last delivery of the over defensively. 11 runs came off the over.

Axar Patel comes into the attack and starts off with two dot balls before Aiden Markram opens his account with a poke into mid-wicket for a single.

Mukesh Kumar with his third over and Marsh attempts to hit the first delivery through leg side but the ball hits his thigh pad and races away to the boundary. (Four leg byes)

Out! Pant is run out at non-striker's end. Marsh hits one straight back and the ball touches Mukesh's hand before crashing onto the stumps.

Pant then shuffles across and attempts to ramp but misses.

"We will bowl first. First match, fresh wicket, it's a red solid wicket and might help in the first 6 overs. Data says a lot of matches are won by the team batting first, but we thought it's the first game and we will bowl. We started well last time, but we slipped in the middle, we're not thinking too far ahead. Nissanka, Miller, Stubbs and Lungi Ngidi, our four overseas players," Axar said.

LSG captain Rishabh Pant said: "Batting first doesn't matter too much. It's a completely new energy this year, he says. We've been working on the negatives, feeling good. Markram, Marsh, Pooran, and Nortje are the four overseas players."

Delhi Capitals hold a slight edge in the head-to-head record against LSG with four wins out of seven games played. 

Interestingly, LSG won the first three games played against DC, before the latter stormed back to win the next four games -- including two each in 2024 and 2025.

The Lucknow pitch has traditionally helped the seamers more than the spinners. The average score at this venue is 198 runs but this season expect the scores to go beyond 200. The weather is expected to be pleasant in the range of 28-32 degrees celsius during the duration of the match.

Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2026 match No. 5 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.  

LSG captain Rishabh Pant will have little room for error in a critical year as his side begins its IPL 2026 campaign against a well-rounded DC.

Pant could not deliver as a leader and frontline batter in his first year at LSG as injuries to key players, especially fast bowlers, made his job a lot tougher.

This season, he has a fully fit squad at his disposal that has been bolstered by the addition of old warhorse Mohammed Shami and Anrich Nortje.

Injury prone pace sensation Mayank Yadav has worked hard on his fitness over the past 12 months and LSG would be hoping that he repays the strong faith that franchise had reposed in him.

Pacer Mohsin Khan too is making a comeback from injury, while Prince Yadav has also impressed with his medium pace in the nets thus far.

Mystery spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi made a name for himself in his debut season and would be looking to build on the massive gains that he made 12 months ago.

Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, look very strong on paper. 

K L Rahul, who will take the gloves is certain to open the innings but there is not enough clarity on his partner. The options are Prithvi Shaw, Abhishek Porel and Pathum Nissanka.

They have brought in David Miller to add more muscle to the middle order comprising another South African Tristan Stubbs.

Delhi Capitals have a potent bowling attack despite the unavailability of Mitchell Starc for the opening game due to an injury.

In captain Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, they have two match winning spinners. The addition of a wily Lungi Ngidi strengthens the pace attack.
