Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2025 match No. 11 between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.
Both RR and CSK have similar worries to address when they face each other. Although the season is in its early stages, both teams have not yet got their combinations right.
They have faced each other 29 times in IPL, with CSK winning 16 matches and RR emerging victorious 13 times.
RR, who lost two matches on the trot, will be looking for their first win of the season when they host a jaded CSK, who endured a long flight to Guwahati hours after being thrashed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at their fortress Chepauk.
Nevertheless, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side will be keen to regroup and fire in unison after their heavy 50-run defeat against RCB on Friday.
RR, who started their campaign on a disastrous note, are at the bottom of the points table, while CSK are in the seventh spot, having won one of their two matches.
RRs batting appears vulnerable, especially on turning wickets. Adding to their woes, they lack strong backup options in their batting line-up.
With Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag going through a lean patch, their top order is overly dependent on Sanju Samson.
They will also need to address their middle-order vulnerabilities, with Shimron Hetmyer and Nitish Rana yet to find their rhythm.
RRs bowling also does not inspire much confidence. Their English pacer Jofra Archer registered the most expensive figures in IPL history against Sunrisers Hyderabad after being hammered for 76 runs in his four overs.
CSK, on the other hand, have historically been known for their stability and not frequently chopping and changing players.
The five-time champions, however, might consider playing Devon Conway in place of Sam Curran. Such a move will give them the luxury of fielding Vijay Shankar as the batting allrounder in place of misfiring Deepak Hooda, or Anshul Kamboj as the bowling allrounder.
Rahul Tripathi, who has struggled in the first two matches, could be used as a floater.
On the bowling front, CSK will once again rely heavily on Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed in their first away game of the season. The 20-year-old mystery spinner currently tops the list of highest wicket-takers, with seven wickets in two games.
With both teams looking to plug their loopholes in order to get their campaign back on track, the encounter promises to be fascinating.
