For readers of a certain age, who were ecstatic at the launch of the Maruti 800 and the farewell to the Ambassador (whose brake pedal one had to stand on to make the car stop), it's strange to read that the car is now a metaphor for cool and kitsch. (Never mind the slipped disc at the end of the journey.)
