News flash: Following in the footsteps Australia's Ricky Ponting, Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara will quit as the country's captain. In an interview to India Today earlier, Sangakkara said he had already met the Lankan board officials and communicated his decision and said he felt that following the ICC World Cup finals defeat at the hands of Indian team it was time someone else took over as the captain of the Lankan cricket team.
The Sri Lanka cricket board confirmed that Sanga had quit as captain of both ODI and T20 team. Selectors will now decide on the new captain. Sanga says he wants a new captain in place for the 2015 WC.
Harsha Bhogle tweets: If true, am a little perplexed at sangakkara's decision. Sri Lanka need him & Jayawardene as statesmen at this time. Still has time on his side.
