England 77-3 (20 Ovs) vs India 587 | SCORECARD

Change of ends for Prasidh Krishna. Brook drops one square on the leg side for a single. Root is composed, defending the rest of the over with a solid technique. Just 1 run from it - England are 72 for 3 after 18 overs.

Jadeja continues. Brook plays with soft hands - a couple of defensive prods, then tries to cut but finds the fielder. A tidy maiden over from Jadeja, maintaining the pressure.

There's a quick chat between the umpire and Gill as we head into the final over of the day.

Prasidh Krishna bowls the 20th. Two slips and a gully in place. Root drives but straight to mid-off. A sharp in-seamer catches him off guard - he gets across and chops it into the ground, top edge doesn't carry. He manages a single. Brook then slashes a boundary, but the next delivery keeps low and seams in - he gets into a tangle trying to fend it, the ball bouncing awkwardly off his glove. He nearly loses balance but survives. Brook sways out of the line of the last ball to see out the day safely. 5 runs from the final over - England close Day 2 on 77 for 3 after 20 overs.

India well on top after Day 2, thanks to Shubman Gill's marathon 269 and some incisive early bowling. England have plenty of work to do.

Siraj charges in with his usual intensity. A massive LBW appeal as he raps Brook on the pads - and not surprisingly, India review it! It's umpire's call - the ball was just clipping the top of leg stump, so the decision stays. Brook survives a close one there, clearly squared up by the delivery. Siraj then oversteps - no ball called - and Brook capitalises, driving it powerfully through mid-off for four. Jaiswal gives chase but can't cut it off.

With just two slips in place now, he adds a couple through the off side. Akash Deep then oversteps - no ball called - before Crawley hammers another boundary through midwicket. He rotates strike with a single to end the over.

Deep then has a quick word with the umpires, seemingly frustrated about his foot landing near the danger zone. He goes round the wicket to Ben Duckett, who sees off the final ball of the over.

12 runs come off the first over - England are 12 for 0.

Tongue continues, and it's another short one. Gill pulls out to deep backward square for a single. Then - disappointment. Another short ball, and this time Gill tries to roll his wrists and play it softly to square leg - but it loops tamely into the hands of the fielder. A soft dismissal to end what has been an extraordinary knock.

Gill looks visibly disappointed - and exhausted - as he walks off, but the applause is deafening, from both the crowd and the Indian dressing room.

Shubman Gill departs for a monumental 269 off 387 balls, the highest Test score by an Indian batter in England. A captain's knock that has set the game up brilliantly for his side.

Carse presses on. Jadeja pulls confidently for a single. Gill pushes one to mid-off for a couple, then plays towards point but can't add to his tally. He rotates strike with a single next ball, and Jadeja shoulders arms to the penultimate delivery before sneaking a single off the last.

Five from the over - India move to 382 for 5 after 102 overs.

Bashir continues, and Gill works one to midwicket for a single. Jadeja then plays out three dot balls with solid defence before tucking one off his pads behind square for a single - and with that, the 150-run partnership comes up. Gill adds another with a push towards mid-on.

Three runs from the over, and after 97 overs, India are 362 for 5.

Carse resumes, and Gill glances a single down to fine leg. Jadeja ducks under a short ball, then pulls the next delivery for a run to square leg. India 359-5 (96 Ovs) vs England | SCORECARD

First change of the morning as Brydon Carse replaces Stokes. Two slips are in place, spread wide - a sign of the heat and possibly some early fatigue, with Jadeja even needing another drink before the over begins. Carse starts with a length delivery that Gill tucks off his pads for a single. Jadeja then sees out the rest of the over with steady defence.

After 94 overs, India are 349 for 5.

There's a change at the other end too, with Shoaib Bashir introduced early into the attack. Just a solitary slip in place. Gill defends the first few deliveries before nudging one to midwicket for a single - and with that, India bring up the 350. After 95 overs, they stand at 350 for 5.

Carse continues, this time with just one slip in place. Gill defends the first, then goes on the offensive - smashing back-to-back boundaries. He follows that with a flick to the leg side, collecting a leg bye.

Nine runs come off the over, and after 96 overs, India move to 359 for 5.

Jadeja dominates Stokes

India 343-5 (92 Ovs) vs England | SCORECARD

Stokes continues, and Gill carefully defends the first two deliveries towards cover before working one to backward point for a single. Jadeja sees out the rest of the over with solid defence. However, Stokes appears more focused on Jadeja's follow-through, once again voicing concerns to the umpires about his boot marks on the pitch.

Just one run comes off the over - after 90 overs, India are 331 for 5.

Woakes returns, and Gill dabs into the off side for a sharp single. Jadeja swings and misses at the next ball, then blocks the following delivery. He drops one into the off side, and Woakes, fielding in his follow-through, has a shy at the stumps at the non-striker's end - but misses. The overthrow results in three bonus runs for Jadeja. Gill safely defends the final two balls.

Four runs from the over - India now 335 for 5 after 91.

Stokes continues from the other end, and Jadeja responds with authority, slamming him for back-to-back boundaries. He defends the next ball to cover, with eight runs coming off the over.

After 92 overs, India are 343 for 5.

Chris Woakes continues from the other end, and Jadeja greets him with a crisp boundary. The next ball is defended into the ground as mid-off charges in; Jadeja had thought about a quick single but wisely retreats.

The umpire has a word with him about running on the pitch. Jadeja then picks up a single toward the point region. Gill defends one before edging the next between second slip and gully - the ball races away for four, adding to Woakes' frustration, which only grows as the delivery is also called a no-ball. Gill presses forward in defence to end the over.

Ten runs come off it - after 87 overs, India are 322 for 5.

Stokes carries on, and Jadeja offers no stroke to start. He then scampers through for a quick single, moving to 48. Gill follows with an easy run to deep backward point. Jadeja adds another to the leg side, before Stokes oversteps - another no-ball. A single to finish the over makes it five from it. After 88 overs, India move to 327 for 5.

Woakes is back, and Gill opens the over with a cut to point for a single. Jadeja defends, then tucks one neatly through square leg to bring up his fifty off 80 balls, celebrating in style with his trademark sword-swing.

Gill adds another with a flick to deep square, before Jadeja taps one down and calls for a single but is sent back just in time.

Three runs from the over - after 89 overs, India are 330 for 5.

Gill, Jadeja hold the key on Day 2

Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the second Test!

India resumed strongly at Edgbaston, with Shubman Gill scripting history. Following his ton at Headingley, he's now the first Indian to score a century on Day 1 of a Test in England twice.

The second new ball did test the edges, but India kept the scoreboard ticking past 300. With conditions set fair and England banking on early breakthroughs, the first hour is crucial.

India will hope either Gill or Jadeja converts into a big one to push toward the 450 mark.

An intriguing day of high-quality Test cricket awaits!
