A surprising move from Team India to bring back veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in place of Washington Sundar, who did no wrong in the Perth Test.
Rohit will bat in the middle order as Yashasvi Jaiswal and K L Rahul continue as the openers, while Shubman Gill takes place at No 3.
India retain their bowling combination of three pacers and one spinner along with pace bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Australia have retained their same combination, making just one change as Scott Boland comes in for Josh Hazlewood.
