Starc back into the attack. He overpitches as Bavuma plays a cracking drive along the ground through the covers for a four to raise the 50-run stand for the fifth wicket from 78 balls.

Bedingham is beaten by a beauty from Starc as he pokes away from his body. He plays and misses again next ball attempting to drive the full outswinger before he gets a leading edge off the last ball.

Bavuma continues to grow in confidence. He makes a statement, playing a thumping pull shot off his opposite number Cummins for a six over square leg.

He is beaten on the outside edge before he leaves the last ball.

The first hour of Day 2 has belonged to South Africa, who have recovered to 87/4 in 35 overs.

Bavuma has led the charge with the bat, with 36 not out from 79 balls, while Bedingham has looked solid on 17.

The duo have put on 57 from 88 balls to get the Proteas back on track.
