Hello and welcome to the coverage of the Qualifier 2.
A resurgent Mumbai Indians will look to bulldoze their way into a record-extending sixth IPL final when they face a shaken but dangerous Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
For Shreyas Iyer's PBKS, this is a test of grit after a crushing eight-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1.
The loss has exposed serious cracks in their bowling unit and left their confidence dented. But the tournament is far from over - and one big fightback could flip the script. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have hit full throttle at just the right time. Their clinical takedown of Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator sent a clear message: this team is peaking - and peaking hard. Hardik Pandya's men look every bit the seasoned knockout pros.
Their deep Indian core - Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma - is firing on all cylinders.
Mahela Jayawardene has transformed a team that finished last season as wooden spooners into potential champions again.
For PBKS, the challenge is two-fold: forget the RCB thrashing and fix the bowling. Arshdeep Singh is carrying too much of the load, while the absence of Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal was brutally exposed on the spicy Mullanpur deck. PBKS scrambled for answers then. On a flat Ahmedabad pitch, they won't get a second chance. Yet, PBKS can draw hope from history '" they beat MI earlier this season, despite Bumrah's brilliance, chasing down a tricky total with ease.
That game showed MI are not invincible. Bumrah, though, remains MI's trump card. His surgical accuracy across 20 overs has suffocated even the best.
The battle between Bumrah and PBKS' young openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya could well decide the match. Rohit Sharma, fresh off a blitz against Gujarat, has found his timing. Add to that Tilak Varma's flair, Bairstow's power, and Gleeson's breakthroughs, and MI look stacked.
For Iyer and Ponting, it's now or never. They must rally their troops, especially with the pressure cooker atmosphere of a knockout.
If PBKS can shrug off their Qualifier 1 failure and deliver a complete performance, they have the firepower to challenge even this ruthless MI machine. But if MI smell weakness early, they will pounce- and Punjab may not recover.
