K L Rahul and Rishabh Pant frustrated the England bowlers in the first session before the latter got out just on the stroke of lunch. Rahul completed his 100 and was dismissed soon after.

Then Ravindra Jadeja, in the company of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar, took India closer to the England's total. A late collapse, however, stopped the visitors from taking the first-innings lead.

Chris Woakes was the pick of English bowlers with 3-84. Archer and Stokes picked up two wickets each while Bashir and Carse accounted for one.

India look to pile on runs

Welcome to the coverage of the third day of the third Test between England and India for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Lords.

The first two days of the game saw momentum swinging both ways as India finished at 145-3 in reply to Englands first innings total of 387.

The visitors were trailing by 242 runs at Stumps on Day 2.

K L Rahul, who is unbeaten on 53, anchored the innings with remarkable composure and built a 38-run partnership with Rishabh Pant who is batting on 19.

India were in a spot of bother after Jofra Archer, who returned to Test cricket after a gap of four years, sent back opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) off his third ball of the first over.

Karun Nair made a valuable 40 before Ben Stokes got rid of him. Chris Woakes then accounted for skipper Shubman Gill (16), but Pant, who walked in with an injured left index finger, played some of his signature shots and kept the scoreboard ticking, hitting a couple of boundaries against Shoaib Bashir.

Rahul was solid at the other end, and the duo ensured there was no further damage before Stumps.

Rahul or Pant will have to score a big hundred and stitch in partnerships if India are to overhaul England's first-innings score.

With the visitors looking to pile on runs and the hosts eyeing a big first-innings lead, an exhilarating day of cricket awaits fans.
