CSK need 5 from last over

CSK 162-5 (19 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

Thakur to bowl the penultimate over. He starts with a low full toss as Dube guides it past short thirdman for a boundary off the first ball.

The next ball is a high full as Dube slashes it over thirdman for a six.

To make matters worse, it has been ruled a no-ball for height which means CSK gets seven from that delivery.

But Dube can't make most of the free hit delivery as he strokes it down to long-off for one.

Dhoni gets a lifeline as he hits Thakur straight to Bishnoi at mid-off, who puts down a tough chance.

Dube digs out the yorker straight back as Thakur makes a good stop on his follow through. He then guides the next ball to deep point for a single.

Thakur gifts Dhoni a full toss which he easily smacks over midwicket for a four.

19 runs from the 19th over has all but sealed the contest in CSK's favour. They need just five runs from the last over.

Dhoni has smashed 25 from 10 balls to take CSK closer to victory.

CSK 143-5 (18 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

Avesh to bowl the 18th over. The first ball is right up as Dube steers it to thirdman for one before Dhoni edges the wide full delivery as it flies fine for a much-needed four.

Dhoni hits the third ball over the cover region but David Miller does well at long-off running to his left and keep it down to just a single.

Avesh gets the yorker right as Dube can only hit it back to the bowler, who is struck on the hands.

Dube plays and misses again as he throws his bat at low full toss outside the off-stump before he gets a thick outside edge last ball, for a single to thirdman.

Brilliant bowling under pressure from Avesh as he concedes just seven runs in his third over.
23:16

CSK need 31 from 3 overs

CSK 136-5 (17 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

Thakur is back into the attack. He starts with a yorker which Dube defends before he smashes the next, which is wide but full, through the covers for a four.

Thakur beats the left-hander with a length ball angled across as he attempts to hit over the top.

Thakur bowls a full toss as Dube fails to make most driving it in the covers where Bishnoi makes a diving stop, to keep it down to a single.

Thakur bowls a wide to Dhoni, looking to keep it outside the off-stump to the CSK veteran and the same next ball for another wide.

Thakur then gets it right with a full wide yorker which Dhoni defends back to the bowler.

Dhoni then swings the last ball one-handed over the midwicket region for a four.

13 runs from the over keep CSK in the hunt. They need 31 from 3 overs.

CSK 111-5 (15 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

He bowls a tidy over, giving away just five singles in his final over, to finish with good figures of 1/25 in four overs.

CSK are 109/4 in 14 overs, needing another 58 from six overs for victory.

Rathi is back into the attack, to bowl his final over. Shankar clips the first ball off his pads for a single and Dube gets a leading edge off the next but it falls safely.

Dube looks to loft Rathi down the ground but is beaten by the sharp turning googly which goes past the edge. Pant whips off the bails and appeals for the stumping but Dube's feet is back in the crease.

Dube takes one down to long-on before Shankar has a big swing but gets a thick outside edge and is caught at short thirdman by Avesh Khan for 9, who nearly made a meal of the easy catch.

Just two runs and a wicket in his final over as Rathi finishes with 1/23 to continue with his dream run with the ball in IPL 2025.

CSK need 56 from 5 overs for victory.

image

CSK 104-4 (13 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

Jadeja plays the cut shot off Bishnoi but can't get it past point before the spinner bowls a wide down the leg side.

Bishnoi strikes another crucial blow. Jadeja looks to loft the leggie down the ground but holes out to Markram at long-off, who does well to judge the catch on the edge of the boundary.

The ball was right there in the slot but Jadeja failed to get enough elevation and ended up holing out to the fielder.

Jadeja walks back after scoring 7 from 11 balls as CSK slip to 96/4 in the 13th over.

Vijay Shankar gets off the mark with a handsome boundary, driving the overpitched delivery from Bishnoi in some style through the covers.

He hits the next on the bounce to long-off for one and Dube picks another run off the fifth ball.

Shankar misses the sweep as Bishnoi bowls a wide down the leg side followed by a leg bye.

Shankar had missed the flick as Bishnoi was quite confident with the leg before appeal forcing captain Pant to take the review.

A narrow escape for Shankar as the decision stays with umpire's call on impact as the ball is clipping the leg stump.
22:41

Spinners put LSG in control

CSK 95-3 (12 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

Leg-spinner Rathi comes back into the attack. Singles from the first three balls before Dube lofts the fifth ball straight down the ground as he fails to time it, for two runs to long-on.

Markram did well to put in the dive and stop the ball and relay the ball to Pooran at long-off. Infact, Pooran threw the ball back quickly but misses the direct hit as Jadeja was clearly struggling.

He keeps strike with a single from the last ball as Rathi concedes six in his third over.

Markram to bowl his third over in a row. Dube fails to time the cut shot but gets the next bang off the middle as he pulls the spinner over midwicket for a six.

Markram bounces back well after that six, to concede just two singles from the remaining four deliveries.
22:37

Tripathi out for 9; CSK in trouble

image

Dube hits the third ball to long-off for a single to get off the mark and Jadeja takes one off the next.

Dube nearly inside edges Markram on to the stumps as he looks to run it down to thirdman and Jadeja keeps strike with a single from the last ball.

CSK are 81/3 in 10 overs at the halfway mark, needing another 86 from 10 overs for victory.

One of Jadeja and Dube need to stay till end if CSK are to chase down this total.

The boundaries are difficult to come in the middle overs as witnessed in the LSG innings and CSK would look towards Dube to hit a few big sixes.
22:29

image

CSK 76-3 (9 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

Ravi Bishnoi leaves CSK in further strife. Tripathi's woeful run with the bat continues. He hits one straight back to the bowler Bishnoi to be caught and bowled for nine.

Two wickets in the space of six ball as CSK slip to 76/3 in the ninth over.

Shivam Dube comes in as the Impact Player in place of Pathirana as he bats at No 5.

Excellent bowling from Bishnoi as he concedes just two runs while picking up his first wicket
22:24

Blow for CSK; Ravindra out for 37

CSK 74-2 (8 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi comes into the attack, to bowl the seventh over. Ravindra hammers the first ball powerfully back past the bowler for a boundary.

He slaps the next past point for one before Tripathi (5) gets a lifeline. He miscues the heave as the ball goes straight but Abdul Samad running in from long-off puts down an easy catch.

Ravindra is beaten as he attempts the sweep shot before he slaps the next past point for two runs.

Part-time spinner Aiden Markram from the other end. Tripathi takes one first ball before Ravindra can't get hold of the pull shot for two runs wide of long-on.

Singles off the next two balls before Ravindra again miscues the pull shot as it falls short of the fielder running to his left at long-on for two runs.

Markram strikes in his first over as Ravindra misses the sweep and is trapped leg before wicket.

He takes the review but the impact is in line and the ball crashing into the stumps as CSK lose their second wicket and also the review.

A big blow for CSK as the well-set Ravindra makes his way back after scoring 37 from 22 balls.
22:12

Rasheed out for 27; CSK lose 1st wkt

CSK 59-1 (6 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

Ravindra takes a single as he punches it straight on the bounce as Avesh gets a hand on it.

Rasheed flicks the full delivery but can't find the gap.

The change of pace does the trick for LSG. Rasheed miscues the slower bouncer trying to pull and is taken by Pooran at midwicket.

Rasheed walks back after an impressive debut knock of 27 from 19 balls.
22:03

CSK off to a flying start!

CSK 45-0 (4 ovs) vs LSG 166-7 | Scorecard

He gets the next ball off the middle, playing another stylish flick through midwicket for back to back fours and then takes a single.

Ravindra plays a cracking drive off the last ball through the covers for the third four of the overs as CSK make a flying start.

Debutant Shaik Rasheed walks out to open the batting with Rachin Ravindra, with CSK looking for a quickfire start in the Powerplay.

Shardul Thakur starts off with the ball for LSG. Rasheed hits the first ball to mid-off before he taps the next into the covers for a single to get off the mark.

Ravindra plays a cracking drive through the covers off the first ball he faces for a boundary to get off the mark in cracking fashion.

The next ball is a bit too straight as the left-hander flicks it in some style through square leg for another four and then takes one to get 10 from the opening over.

Akash Deep from the other end. Ravindra plays a straight drive first ball as the bowler half stops it, for a single.

The next ball seams away a touch as Rasheed is beaten on the outside edge before he plays a nicely-timed flick through midwicket for a four.

He misses the clip off his pads next ball before slamming the next back over the bowler's head for another boundary.

Akash overpitches on the stumps and Rasheed shows his class as he flicks it over midwicket for the third four of the over.

CSK off to a flying start, as they race to 23 for no loss in two overs.

image

LSG 166-7 (20 ovs) vs CSK | Scorecard

Pathirana to bowl the final over. He starts with a big wide outside the off-stump before Pant manages a single off the next.

Another wide down the leg side as Samad looks to steal a quick single. But an alert Dhoni underarms the throw over the batter running to the non-striker's end and hits the stumps, to catch Samad (20) short.

Pathirana strikes next ball with the wicket of the well-set Pant, who top edges the pull shot and Dhoni completes an easy catch using his big gloves.

Pant walks back after scoring 63 from 49 balls, hitting four sixes and as many fours.

Pathirana misses his line again as he bowls a wide down the leg side to new batter Shardul Thakur before the batter pulls the next for two runs to deep midwicket.

Thakur then looks to slash Pathirana over point but gets a thick outside edge as the ball flies fine for a four.

However, Pathirana gets revenge next ball as Thakur miscues the slower ball to chip a simple catch to the fielder at mid-off.

LSG finish on 166/7 in their 20 overs, with 57 coming from the last five overs.

Pathirana finished with 2/45, while Jadeja excelled with figures of 2/24 in three overs.

Even though he didn't pick a wicket, Noor was again CSK's best bowler conceding just 13 runs from his four overs, including 13 dot balls.

Pant gaining in confidence as he smashes the next over long-on for a six before he attempts the scoop but fails to connect.

Pant then top edges the pull shot high on the off-side but Shaik Rasheed running back from mid-off puts down a tough chance as the fielder hits his fingers tip.

Samad ends the over in style as he pulls the last ball over square leg for a six, to get 16 from the over, with LSG going past 150 in the 19th over.

Pant finally makes good connection. He flicks Pathirana over midwicket for a six -- his first boundary after 18 balls.

He steers the next ball through the covers for two runs and swings the next ball one-handed but it has enough legs to carry over the leg side for a six.

That brings up Pant's first fifty in IPL 2025, from 42 balls. This is Pant's  second slowest fifty in the IPL after the 46-ball fifty against RCB in IPL 2022.

Pant swings hard again but this time he is beaten by the slower bouncer. He gets a leading edge next ball as he collects a risky single before Samad misses the pull to take a leg bye.

jadeja, Noor keep LSG batters in check

image

LSG 118-4 (16 ovs) vs CSK | Scorecard

LSG's hopes of getting around 175 rests largely with Pant, who finally seems to have found some form in this match.

Spin from both ends as Noor is back into the attack. He bowls another superb over, giving away just two singles while sending down four dot balls.

Noor has been superb, giving away just 10 runs in three overs.

Pant was beaten twice in the over as he looks to have suddenly slowed down after a bright start. He is batting on 37 from 32 balls.

LSG are 109/4 in 15 overs. They will need a strong finish to post a competitive total on a pitch which has looked two paced and is not easy for hitting boundaries.

Pathirana is back into the attack. Abdul Samad hits the first ball to long-on for a single and Pant mistimes the pull shot before taking just a single off the third.

Samad is beaten trying to pull the short ball but smashes the next ball, full and wide, over the off-side for a six.

He fails to get hold of the pull shot last ball for just a single, as nine runs come from the over.
20:50

Badoni out for 22; LSG 4 down

image

LSG 107-4 (14 ovs) vs CSK | Scorecard

Pacer Matheesha Pathirana comes into the attack, to bowl the 13th over. He starts with a wide half-volley which Pant drills through the covers for a four and then takes a single to thirdman to bring up LSG's 100.

Pathirana bowls a short ball to Badoni, who is happy to leave before he misses the pull shot as the leg side bouncer is ruled a wide.

Another short ball from Pathirana, this time outside the off-stump, as Badoni gets a thick outside edge trying to play the upper cut, slicing it straight to Vijay Shankar at thirdman.

The umpires check for the height of the bouncer with the TV umpire. The TV umpire rules that the ball is over the shoulder height -- the third high bouncer of the over -- which means that the delivery is ruled a no-ball by the narrowest of margins.

Not only does Badoni (20 from 13 balls) get a lifeline but he also get a free hit delivery.

However, Badoni can't make most as he hits the free hit delivery to the fielder at deep point for a single.

Jadeja back into the attack. He strikes first ball as he gets Badoni leg before wicket before he takes the review.

Badoni went for the reverse sweep but misses the ball and was struck in front to be given out leg before wicket.

Another lifeline for Badoni as the UltraEdge shows a tiny spike when the ball passed the gloves. The TV umpire rules that the ball brushed the gloves before it hit the pads as the decision is overturned.

However, Jadeja gets his man three balls later. Badoni charges down the wicket too early as Jadeja bowls it wide to beat him and Dhoni whips off the bails.

Hold on! There is another review as the umpires check whether Dhoni's gloves were completely behind the stumps when he collected the ball.

Third time lucky for CSK as Badoni is given out stumped after scoring 22 from 17 balls.

Singles off the last two balls as Jadeja does well to concede just four runs while picking up a wicket

image

LSG 95-3 (12 ovs) vs CSK | Scorecard

Wonderful bowling from Noor as he gives away just three runs in his second over, for a total of eight runs conceded in two overs -- including five dot balls.

Pacer Overton comes back as he replaces Jadeja, who took 1/20 in two overs in his first spell.

CSK continue to build the pressure as just two runs come from the first four balls.

Badoni releases the pressure as he lofts Overton's full delivery inside out over the off-side for a six.

The last ball is short but down the leg side and this time the young right-hander plays the pick up shot off his pads for a six over fine leg, to get 14 from the over.

LSG 78-3 (10 ovs) vs CSK | Scorecard

Pant gets a streaky boundary as he tries to sweep Jadeja but the ball goes off the bottom edge, between Dhoni's legs for a four followed by a single to raise the 50-run stand for the third wicket.

Jadeja makes the breakthrough with the wicket of the dangerous Marsh, who misses the pull shot and is bowled after scoring a steady 30 from 25 balls.

Jadeja did well to beat Marsh with the quicker delivery clocked at 106kph much quicker than his regular deliveries as it skidded straight through, beating the batter all ends up to crash into the middle stump.

Ayush Badoni nearly inside edges the first ball he faces from Jadeja as he tries to defend. He uses his feet to loft Jadeja inside out over the covers for a four to get off the mark in style and takes one off the last ball.

CSK elect to bowl vs LSG; Ashwin out

Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has won the toss and elected to bowl against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Monday.

'The reason being that there is chance of dew, and whenever there is dew, the wicket gets better to bat during the second innings,' reasons Dhoni at the toss.

Dhoni reveals that they had made a couple of changes as Shaik Rasheed replaces Devon Conway, while senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin makes way for Jamie Overton.

Meanwhile, LSG have made one change as Mitchell Marsh is back in the playing XI in place of Himmat Singh.

'Change of pace will be key for pacers'

Pitch Report:

Darren Ganga says the pitch is a mix of black and red soil, 70 percent black and 30 percent red.

Michael Clarke claims it is a nice wicket, it could play two paced. It looks like a little bit inconsistent, some grass patches and some bare patches. The key for the bowlers will be change of pace, the best time to bat will be when the ball is new.

Batting a big worry for CSK!

image

Batting has been a big concern for the struggling CSK.

Against KKR, CSK's batters played just 15 shots with the intent of scoring a boundary as they were shot out for 103/9 in their 20 overs -- their lowest total at home in the IPL.

CSK's batters have failed to find the boundaries consistently, having a combined strike rate of 124.23 after six matches.

Openers Rachin Ravindra (149 runs in 6 matches) and Devon Conway (94 runs in 3 matches) have both struggled to get going in the Powerplay, with both scoring at a strike rate in the 120s.

Shivam Dube, the only recognised big-hitter in the CSK line-up, has failed to make an impact with 137 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 133, without a single fifty.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni hasn't able to inspire his team, scoring 104 runs in six games, preferring to bat mostly at No 7 or lower.

The lack of runs from Rahul Tripathi (46 runs from 4 matches) and Deepak Hooda (7 runs from 3 matches) has compounded CSK's woes. Vijay Shankar made 69 not out against Delhi Capitals in a losing cause, but struggled to score 29 against KKR.

CSK need to win six out of the next eight matches to keep their hopes alive of making it to the play-offs.

Struggling CSK face confident LSG

Welcome to the 30th of IPL 2025 between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Monday.

Chennai Super Kings have never experienced a worse phase in the IPL and their faltering batters will have to deliver to arrest their steep slide in a must-win game against an upbeat LSG.

CSK have never lost five games in a row, including an unprecedented three at the Chepauk, their proverbial fortress.

If there is anyone who can get them out of the doldrums, it is Mahendra Singh Dhoni. However, even his return to captaincy following Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury could not turn their fortunes around in their previous outing against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.

CSK have been accused of sheltering players past their prime in the past and those questions have expectedly resurfaced after a record losing streak. The lack of power-hitters in their squad has also become a talking point, Dhoni himself conceding that even targeting 60 runs in the powerplay is a tad too ambitious for them.

Openers Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway are two fine batters but expecting them to go hammer and tongs from ball one goes against their style of play.

Rahul Tripathi, coming in place of Gaikwad at three, will be under immense pressure to perform. The team also needs to get more out of veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Shivam Dube needs more support on the power-hitting front and best placed to do that is Dhoni himself, but his constant change of batting position, the last outing was at No .9, makes the task tougher for the World Cup-winning skipper.

Their opponents, LSG, will be looking for their fourth win on the trot having gained some much-needed consistency in a tournament of fine margins.

Bowling was their weakest link at the start of the competition after injuries to main pacers, but it was the bowlers who helped them tide over Gujarat Titans in Lucknow on Saturday.

It was remarkable how the likes of Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and Shardul Thakur were able to stem the flow of runs at the back end of Titans' innings after a flying start from the opposition.

The Lucknow pitch, traditionally slow, has been better for batting and that is suiting the likes of Nicholas Pooran, who is striking the ball as cleanly as ever.

The absence of Mitchell Marsh at the top of the order allowed Rishabh Pant to open alongside an in-form Aiden Markram on Saturday.
