Pakistan off to steady start vs India

Pak 23-0 (5 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Shafique defends the first ball of Bumrah's second over and edges the next which falls short of  Kohli at first slip and he runs the third ball to thirdman for a single.

Imam watchfully keeps out the rest of the over as Bumrah concedes just a single in his second over.

Siraj continues to leak runs. Shafique plays a cracking drive through the covers for a boundary, the fourth four he has conceded in seven balls.

Siraj shortens his length a little bit making Shafique defend the next two before he picks a quick single to mid-off from the fourth ball and Imam takes one to square leg.

The pacers have cut back their length, looking for a more restrictive length. Imam keeps out the first ball before he gets a leading edge off the next which falls safely on the off-side.

Bumrah switches to round the wicket as Imram leaves one away from his body and pushes the next to point.

Bumrah comes straighter on the line of the stumps as Pakistan's opener defends it with a straight bat.

He cuts the last ball on the bounce to Jadeja at point as Bumrah bowls a maiden over.

Just seven runs from the last three overs as Pakistan reach 23 for no loss in five overs.

Pakistan off to a quick start vs India

Pak 16-0 (2 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Imam-Ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique are the two openers for Pakistan, while Jasprit Bumrah opens the bowling for India.

The first ball is pitched up as Shafique defends and blocks the next with a straight bat and does the same third ball.

The fourth ball is on the pads as Shafique clips it to the fielder at square leg.

No signs of any swing for Bumrah so far as the wicket looks to be full of runs.

The fifth ball is pushed towards point for another dot before Shafique flicks the last ball through midwicket for a four to get off the mark.

Mohammed Siraj starts with a poor delivery. The first ball is down the leg side as Imam glances it fine for a four. The second ball is again full as the left-hander plays a beautiful straight drive past mid-off for another boundary.

Two balls later, Imam clips Siraj off his pads past square leg for the third four of the over and he defends the last two balls.

Pakistan off a flier with four boundaries in the first two overs as they race to 16 for no loss in two overs.

Gill back as India elect to bowl vs Pak

India captain Rohit Sharma has won the toss and elected to bowl against Pakistan in the World Cup 2023 match in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

"It is a good pitch, it is not going to change too much. Dew can be a factor in the second half of the game, so we decided to chase," said Rohit at the toss.

But the big announcement from Rohit which evokes a huge response from the fans is: "Gill is back."

Shubman Gill has recovered from dengue and will replace Ishan Kishan as the opener for this crunch match.

Meanwhile, Pakistan have retained the same team which beat Sri Lanka in their previous match.

Confident India set for Pakistan challenge

Welcome to the coverage of the World Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

The World Cup hasn't generated much buzz so far, but the tournament is finally set to wake up with a high profile match between the two arch-rivals.

Both teams have won their first two matches but recent form and team composition suggests India as the favourites to stretch their unbeaten record to 8-0 against Pakistan in ODI World Cups.

India registered a hard earned six wicket victory against Australia in their opening match on a tough wicket in Chennai, before streamrolling Afghanistan by eight wickets.

Pakistan outclassed The Netherlands by 81 runs and then needed their batters to chase down a World Cup record total against Sri Lanka after their lacklustre bowling attack had conceded a massive 344 runs.

In the absence of Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi struggling to find his wicket-taking form, Pakistan may find it tough to stop the Indian batters.

Captain Rohit Sharma laid down the marker with a blistering century against Afghanistan, while Shubman Gill is set to feature in the crunch match after recovering from dengue.

Virat Kohli enjoys the big stage and it will take something special from Pakistan's bowlers to halt the India No 3's smashing recent run, with three fifties and a century in his four innings in ODIs.

K L Rahul will take a lot of confidence from his brilliant 111 not out against Pakistan in the Asia Cup as he made a grand comeback after a long injury lay-off.

The Indian bowlers are also looking in fine touch. Jasprit Bumrah seems to be back to his best, with six wickets in the first two games of the World Cup making up for a lack of wickets from his new ball partner Mohammed Siraj.

All-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur chipped in with wickets in the middle overs against Afghanistan to take the pressure off spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.

India could be expected to field a similar bowling combination against Pakistan, including four pace bowlers and two spinners.

In their previous match, India took the Pakistan bowlers to the cleaners after they amassed a huge 356/2 in the Asia Cup match in Colombo and if the conditions are suitable, it won't be a surprise if their batters post another huge total if they get a chance to bat first on Saturday.
