NCP chief Sharad Pawar on the Farm Laws: "I had said that APMC needs some reforms. APMC Act should continue but with reforms. There is no doubt that I had written the letter. But their three Acts does not even mention APMC. They are just trying to divert the attention. There is no need to give importance on all this. Tomorrow 5-6 people from different political parties are going to sit, discuss and take a collective stand... We have a 5 pm appointment tomorrow with the President. We will present our collective stand before him."
The Nationalist Congress Party on Monday issued clarifications on letters sent by party chief Sharad Pawar to former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit in 2010 and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in 2011, suggesting amendments to the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act, PTI reported, yesterday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has attacked the Opposition parties for protesting against the new farm laws, terming their stance double standards.
The saffron party said that Pawar, when he was the former Union agriculture minister in the United Progressive Alliance government, had sought to invite private players into the agriculture sector. Letters of Pawars support to private sector entry into agriculture surfaced on social media as the NCP firmly opposed the farm laws.
