Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the Asia Cup 2025 Group A match between India and the UAE at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Defending champions India, who look almost invincible in the shortest format, will be eager to continue their impressive record in the continental event by winning a record-extending ninth crown.
Despite the format's unpredictable nature, India, world's No. 1 ranked T20 side, start as the overwhelming favourites against the hosts, who are ranked 14 rungs below them.
India and the UAE have met only once in T20Is, back in the 2016 Asia Cup, when the Men in Blue registered a commanding win in Mirpur, Bangladesh. Batting first, UAE could muster up only 81-9 and India chased down the target inside 11 overs.
Out of the 10 T20Is that India have played in the UAE, they have emerged victorious in six.
India flaunt arguably the most balanced team in the fray. They possess a formidable top-order and a lethal pace attack besides a number of proven all-rounders who can turn the game on its head single-handedly.
"We are playing T20 as a team after a long time. But we are here three-four days back, had some good time together as a team, and we are really looking forward to this tournament," said Team India skipper Suryakumar Yadav in the pre-tournament press conference.
Against the perceived minnows, India will be keen to get their combinations right before the crucial match against Pakistan on September 14.
Following the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from T20Is, Indian selectors have a problem of plenty when it comes to picking the top batting order.
Over the past one year, Sanju Samson has established himself as a strong contender for the opener's role with a string of excellent performances, but the return of Shubman Gill to the T20 side has led to the Kerala batters potential exclusion from the playing XI.
Rinku Singh, once seen as Indias designated T20 finisher, could also be seen warming the bench as the selectors could be inclined towards a more versatile and impactful Shivam Dube.
The UAE, on the other hand, will have a home advantage due to familiarity with pitch conditions, weather, and crowd support. However, the Muhammad Waseem-led side will have to play out of their skins to stop the Indian juggernaut.
Young batter Alishan Sharafu, who finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer in T20Is in 2024 with 770 runs, will be their trump card. The hosts will also be pinning their hopes on skipper Waseem, who is their all-time T20I top scorer with 2,922 runs at an impressive strike rate of 155.57.
India have won four of their last five T20Is, while the UAE could not register a single win in their last five international outings.
Since the pitch is expected to favour both pacers and spinners, the teams would go for a balanced attack.
The match will be televised live in India on the Sony Sports Network and also will be streamed live on the Sony LIV app and website.
