Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League Eliminator between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the New PCA Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh, on Friday, May 30, 2025.
It will be the end of the road for either Mumbai or Titans as both will be looking to eliminate each other in the high-stakes encounter.
Smarting from back-to-back losses in their last two league games, Titans will be desperate to return to winning ways when they face a formidable Mumbai.
The 2022 champions, who finished third on the points table with 18 points, will draw confidence from their clean record against the Hardik Pandya-led side this season.
In match No. 9, they comfortably defeated Mumbai by 36 runs at home, riding on a 41-ball 63 by opener Sai Sudharshan and an inspired bowling show by pacer Prasidh Krishna (2-18).
When they met again in match No. 56, Titans won by 3 wickets in a rain-curtailed game at the Wankhede, with skipper Shubman Gill (43 off 46 balls) and Sherfane Rutherford (28 off 15 balls) taking them over the line in an evenly poised contest.
In fact, they are on a four-match winning streak against Mumbai apart from holding a slight edge over them in head-to-head contests so far, winning three out of five games played between them.
Numbers may be stacked in Titans favour, but on Friday, Mumbai will walk in as the favourites because of their excellent record in do-or-die games over the years.
This season too Mumbai experienced a typical slow start, losing four of their first five matches and finding themselves at the bottom of the points table.
They made a stunning comeback thereafter, winning seven of their next nine games to ensure a playoff berth with 16 points.
Both teams will be playing the knockout fixture without some of their overseas stars.
Gujarat will sorely miss Jos Buttler and Kagiso Rabada while Mumbai will have to fill the void left by the departure of wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton and all-rounder Will Jacks.
