Shami in focus as India take on England

image
Hello and welcome to the coverage of the 1st T20I between India and England in Kolkata.

Fit-again Mohammed Shami's comeback will be in focus as the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian T20 side takes on England in the first of a five-match series.

Shami, India's top wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023 with 24 scalps, including a brilliant 7/57 in the semi-final against New Zealand, aims to prove his fitness and improve his T20I record of 24 wickets at an average of 29.62.

The series also offers a fresh start for India after a disappointing Test tour in Australia and serves as a testing ground for combinations ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Sanju Samson, left out of the Champions Trophy squad, will also face a crucial test to cement his place in India's setup.
