Mirabai dominates with record-breaking 85kg lift

Mirabai Chanu showed why she remains India's biggest weightlifting star with another dominant display in the women's 49kg snatch event.

The Olympic silver medallist began at 82kg, a weight so high that she only entered after every other competitor had completed all three of their attempts.

There was a brief scare when Mirabai failed her opening lift after losing balance. But she returned moments later to successfully lift 82kg, setting a new Commonwealth record.

She then raised the bar to 85kg for her final attempt and made it look effortless, smashing her own Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth records. With her rivals managing only 77kg and 71kg, Mirabai was in a league of her own.
