Labour unrest in the industrial belt of neighbouring Sriperumbudur emerged as a section of employees belonging to Korean electronics giant Samsung have resorted to a strike, pressing for various demands including wage revision, sources said on Wednesday.
The facility located about 40 km from Chennai in Sriperumbudur produces various consumer durable products across categories.

An official source revealed that the Governor has sent a letter to the chief minister, seeking an update on the government's actions regarding the alleged "serious offences."

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, party national spokesperson Sudhansu Trivedi said Gandhi earlier used to indulge in childish activities but now he is indulging in dangerous and mischievous activities.

13:17 UP: Two more girls injured in suspected wolf attacks in Bahraich
Two more girls have been injured in suspected wolf attacks in two villages of Mahasi tehsil in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, officials said on Wednesday. According to the officials, one of the incidents, involving a 11-year-old girl, took place in Makupurwa village late Tuesday night, while the other attack occurred in Bhavani Pur village, where a 10-year-old girl was injured.
Though the villagers claim the attacks were carried out by wolves, government doctors suspect the injuries may have been caused by bites from another animal, they said.
The forest department said it was yet to confirm which animal was behind the latest attacks in the region, which has been in the grip of fear due to man-eating wolves that have killed eight people and injured more than 30 since mid-July.

12:22 Bengal docs continue strike despite SC order
Defying Supreme Court's directive to join duties by 5 pm on September 10, protesting junior doctors in West Bengal continued with their cease work for the 33rd day on Wednesday to press their demand for justice for a medic who was allegedly raped and murdered at a state-run hospital in Kolkata last month.
The junior doctors also continued their sit-in outside Swasthya Bhawan, the headquarters of the state health department, for the second day, demanding that the Kolkata Police commissioner and senior health officials be removed from their posts.
The top court on Monday directed the protesting resident doctors to resume work by 5 pm on Tuesday and said no adverse action shall be taken against them on resumption of work. The court passed the direction after the West Bengal government assured it that no action, including punitive transfers, shall be taken against the protesting doctors on resumption of work.
The state government said it has written to the protesters, inviting them for a meeting at the state secretariat 'Nabanna' to resolve the impasse over the incident. However, the protesting doctors said the mail for the meeting was from the state health secretary, whose resignation they were seeking, and termed it as "insulting". They also said that restricting the number of representatives to attend the meeting to 10 was "humiliating".
The body of the postgraduate trainee at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was recovered on August 9. A civic volunteer was arrested the next day in connection with the crime. The Central Bureau of Investigation is conducting a probe into the alleged rape and murder of the woman medic, following a Calcutta High Court order. PTI

Amit Shah on Rahul Gandhi's US speeches.
"Standing with forces that conspire to divide India and making anti-national statements have become a habit for Rahul Gandhi, Congress. Whether it's supporting NC's anti-national agenda in J-K or making anti-India comments abroad, Rahul has threatened nation's security.
"Rahul's statement lays bare Congress' politics of causing rifts on lines of regionalism, religion and linguistic differences.
"By speaking about abolishing quota, Rahul Gandhi once again brought Congress' anti-reservation face to the forefront. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that as long as BJP is there, neither can anyone abolish quota nor can anyone mess with nation's security."

Seventeen persons have been detained in connection with the incident which took place on Tuesday night in Gokul Nagar area, they said. The police rushed to spot and dispersed the rioters. The situation is currently under control, an official said.
People from the two sides gathered in large numbers and then hurled stones at each other, which left two persons injured and caused damage to some vehicles parked there, said Bharuch Superintendent of Police Mayur Chavda, who rushed to the spot with security personnel after learning about the clash.
Based on a complaint given by members of one community, police registered an FIR and detained 17 persons belonging to another community, who were involved in the violence, Chavda said.

10:29 Dissatisfied with Mamata's role: RG Kar doc's dad
The father of the deceased trainee doctor from Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College said that the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, has not done any work and his family is not satisfied with her role in the case.
The victim's father on Tuesday also said that they demanded a CBI investigation due to her "unsatisfied role" in the case.
Speaking to ANI, the victim's father, said, "We are not satisfied with the role of the CM (Mamata Banerjee) in the case; that's why we went to the CBI. She hasn't done any work. One of the policemen came to our house, they said we have arrested Sanjay Roy and he will be produced in fast track court and will get a death sentence. But the incident that happened with my daughter was not the work of just one person. We have been saying this since starting that persons from the department involved in this."
Reacting to Mamata Banerjee's Durga Puja remarks, the victim's father said, "Maybe she will take people to celebrate, in her capacity but we think no one will celebrate Durga Puja this year. If someone celebrates, they will not be celebrating with happiness. Because all the people of Bengal and the country consider my daughter their daughter."
On September 9, West Bengal CM Banerjee encouraged people to "return to festivities" as Durga Puja nears and urged junior doctors to resume their duties as soon as possible.
In response, the victim's mother expressed that this request seemed inhuman to her.
"Durga Puja is celebrated in my house too; my daughter used to handle it herself. But Durga Puja will never be celebrated in my house again. The light in my home is out. How can I ask people to return to the festival?" she said.
She further questioned, "If such an incident had happened in the Chief Minister's family, would she have said this?"The victim's mother also asserted that they would continue their movement until justice is served.
The second-year postgraduate medical student was raped and murdered inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on August 9.
09:59 Trump will ban abortion, says Harris; he says...
US Vice President Kamala Harris said that former US President Donald Trump will sign national abortion ban if he gets re-elected. However, Trump called Harris' statement a "lie" and said that there's no reason to sign a ban.
During Kamala Harris and Donald Trump face-off at Philadelphia during the ABC News presidential debate, the two leaders touched on the topic of e subject of abortion. She said Trump's policies on abortion have no basis except for rape or incest and termed it "immoral."
On the issue of abortion, Kamala Harris said, "Well, as I said, you're going to hear a bunch of lies, and that's not actually a surprising fact. Let's understand how we got here, Donald Trump hand selected three members of the United States Supreme Court with the intention that they would undo the protections of Roe v Wade. And they did exactly as he intended."
"And now in over 20 states, there are Trump abortion bans, which make it criminal for a doctor or nurse to provide healthcare, in one state, it provides prison for life. Trump abortion bans that make no exception even for rape and incest, which understand what that means. A survivor of a crime or violation to their body does not have the right to make a decision about what happens to their body next. That is immoral. And one does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree," she added.
Kamala Harris said that the government and Donald Trump should not tell women what they should do with their bodies. She announced that she would "proudly" sign a bill to put back in place the protections of Roe v Wade if she becomes US President.
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said, "The government and Donald Trump certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with her body. I have talked with women around our country you want to talk about, this is what people wanted. Pregnant women who want to carry a pregnancy to term, suffering from a miscarriage, being denied care in an emergency room because their healthcare providers are afraid they might go to jail and she's bleeding out in a car in the parking lot. She didn't want that. Her husband didn't want that. A 12 or 13-year-old survivor of incest being forced to carry a pregnancy to term, they don't want that."
"And I pledge to you, when Congress passes a bill to put back in place the protections of Roe v Wade, as president of the United States, I will proudly sign it into law. But, understand, if Donald Trump were to be re-elected, he will sign a national abortion ban. Understand, in his project 2025, there would be a national abortion monitor that would be monitoring your pregnancies, your miscarriages. I think the American people believe that certain freedoms, in particular the freedom to make decisions about one's own body, should not be made by the government," she added.
Rejecting her remarks that he would sign national abortion ban, Trump termed it a "lie." He said that Democrats, Republicans and everyone wanted it to be brought back into the states, referring to the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v Wade.
In response to Harris' remarks, Trump said, "Well there she goes again, it's a lie. I'm not signing a ban and there's no reason to sign a ban because we've gotten what everybody wanted, Democrats, Republicans and everybody else and every legal scholar wanted it to be brought back into the states and the states are voting. And it may take a little time but for 52 years, this issue has torn our country apart and they wanted it back in the states. And I did something that nobody thought was possible. The states are now voting, what she says is an absolute lie and as far as the abortion ban, no I am not in favour of abortion ban but it does not matter because the issues has been taken over by the states."
Asked whether he would veto the national abortion ban at the ABC News debate, he said, "Well, I would have to, because again two things. number one, she said she would go back to Congress but she will never get the vote. It is impossible for her to get the vote especially now with the 50-50, essentially 50-50 in both Senate and the House. She is not going to get the vote. She can't get the vote. She is not going to get close to it."
On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court of the US abolished abortion rights while overturning the constitutional right granted to women in a historical 1973 ruling called Roe vs Wade. Through this abortion was legalized across the states.
The Supreme Court has struck down Roe vs Wade, eliminating the nearly 50-year-old constitutional right to abortion and ruled that states may regulate the practice of it, according to a media report, CNN reported.
Abortion has emerged as a key issue in the 2024 election. According to CNN report, freedom advocates have been making efforts to get measures preserving reproductive rights on the elections in November to let voters weigh in.

09:06 Trump thanked China for Covid: Kamala
Criticising the Donald Trump administration over his trade policy with regards to China, US Vice President Kamala Harris said that the former US President invited trade wars and sold American chips to China to help them improve and modernise the military.
During the presidential debate conducted by ABC News, Harris said that the US' policy with regards to China should be to win the competition for the 21st century, which she stressed means focussing on relationships with allies of the US, focusing on investing in American-based technology.
In response to a question on whether Americans can afford higher prices on tariffs, Kamala Harris said, "The Trump administration resulted in a trade deficit, one of the highest we have ever seen in the history of America. He invited trade wars. You want to talk about his deal with China, what he ended up doing under Donald Trump's presidency. He ended up selling American chips to China to help them improve and modernize their military."
"Basically, sold us out when a policy about China should be in making sure the United States of America wins the competition for the 21st century, which means focusing on the details of what that requires, focusing on relationships with our allies, focusing on investing in American-based technology so that we win the race on AI, on quantum computing, focusing on what we need to do support America's workforce so that we don't end up having on the short end of the stick in terms of workers rights," she added.
Slamming former US President, Harris said that Trump thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping despite knowing that Xi was responsible for lacking and not giving transparency regarding the origins of COVID.
"But, what Donald Trump did, let's talk about this with COVID. He actually thanked President Xi for what he did with COVID. Look at his tweet, Thank you Mr Xi! When we know Xi was responsible for lacking and not giving us transparency about the origins of COVID," Harris said.
08:58 Trump vs Kamala: 'Inflation at worst in nation's history'
Former US President Donal Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris squared up in the first Presidential Debate in Philadelphia on ABC News. Kicking off the debate, Trump took on the Biden-Harris administration saying that inflation in the US is probably the worst in nation's history. Trump said that inflation is at 21 per cent and other things are 50 per cent, 60 per cent, 70 per cent, and 80 per cent higher than they were just a few years ago.
"We have inflation like very few people have ever seen before. Probably the worst in our nation's history. We were at 21 per cent but that's being generous, because many things are 50 per cent, 60 per cent, 70 per cent, and 80 per cent higher than they were just a few years ago. This has been a disaster for people, for the middle class, but for every class," he said. Trump also attacked Biden-Harris on the issue of illegal immigration claiming that millions had poured in from 'mental institutions and insane asylums'.
"We have millions of people pouring into our country from prisons and jails, from mental institutions and insane asylums. And they're coming in and they're taking jobs that are occupied right now by African Americans and Hispanics and also unions. Unions are going to be affected very soon. And you see what's happening. You see what's happening with towns throughout the United States," Trump said.
Trump said that President Joe Biden had allowed illegal immigrants into the country and those immigrants were destroying the country now.

00:23 Not keen to return to BJP because....: Khadse
The prospects of senior leader Eknath Khadse's return to the Bharatiya Janata Party appeared dim on Tuesday after he stated that he was never keen to join the party again, and also claimed that Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis could be stalling his re-induction.
Speculation about the former BJP leader, currently with the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, returning to the saffron party intensified after the BJP renominated his daughter-in-law Raksha Khadse as Lok Sabha candidate, and made her a Union minister of state after she won.
But there has been no announcement from the BJP yet on his reinduction despite Khadse expressing willingness earlier this year.
Speaking to a regional news channel on Tuesday, Khadse said, "I was not keen on returning to the BJP fold, but senior leaders of the party insisted on it. When I met BJP president J P Nadda, he felicitated me with a scarf, and declared that I had become part of the BJP."
Asked who could be coming in the way his joining the BJP, Khadse said, "It could be Devendra Fadnavis and Girish Mahajan."
Asked for his reaction, Mahajan, Khadse's local BJP rival in Jalgaon district who is considered to be close to Fadnavis, said, "He wants all the parties and posts shared with his family members. His daughter-in-law is a Union minister, but he intends to field his daughter in the assembly election from NCP-SP. If the opposition MVA forms the government, Khadse would want her to be made a minister."
"He has been a public representative for over 30 years and still wants more," Mahajan added, indicating that the two had not buried their hatchet. -- PTI
