KL Rahul's valiant knock in vain

image
Gujarat Titans beat Delhi Capitals by one run despite KL Rahul's heroic 92 off 52 balls.

Needing two off two balls to reach the victory target of 211, David Miller had a brain-fade moment when he refused a single of the penultimate delivery from Prasidh Krishna and then missed the last delivery with Kuldeep Yadav failing to beat Jos Buttler's direct throw.

Shubman Gill led from the front with a belligerent half-century to help GT post 210 for four..

Besides Gill (70 off 45 balls; 4x4s, 5x6s), Jos Buttler also chipped in with an aggressive 52 off 27 deliveries while Washington Sundar made a fiery 55 off 32 balls after the Capitals opted to bowl.

For DC, Mukesh Kumar (2/55) and Lungi Ngidi (1/24) were the pick of the bowlers.

Chasing, Rahul's knock went in vain but his 76-run opening partnership in 8.1 overs with Pathum Nissanka (41 off 24) gave momentum to DC's chase.

But thereafter, none of the DC batters could produce substantial scores before David Miller's unbeaten 20-ball 41 kept them in the hunt till the last ball.

Rashid Khan (3/17) was the pick of the bowlers for GT.

Shubman Gill back to lead Gujarat Titans

image
Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has won the toss and has elected to bowl in their IPL 2026 match against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Delhi are unchanged while Kumar Kushagra makes way for Shubman Gill in GT's XI. Gill missed Titans' previous fixture against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad with a muscle spasm.

"We will bowl first. We've chased well in the last two matches and this is a fresh wicket. It's been raining; there could be some moisture. Bowl first, have a look at the wicket, restrict them and chase down the score. We look at the match-ups, making it as difficult as possible for the batters and choose the best possible bowlers. Same XI for us," said Axar.

Titans captain Shubman Gill said: "It's much better (neck issue, which forced him to miss the previoous game), it's something similar (to what happened in the Test against South Africa). We were going to bat first anyway, if the weather stays this way, there'll be no dew in the second innings. It's all about assessing the conditions, we have good opening partnerships (with Sai Sudharasan) and hopefully, we'll put runs on the board. KK (Kumar Kushagra) sits out for me, rest is unchanged."

Let's have a look at the Playing XIs:

Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill (Captain), Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler (Wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Ashok Sharma.

Impact Subs: Prasidh Krishna, Jason Holder, Manav Suthar, Jayant Yadav, Anuj Rawat.

Capitals look to keep winning momentum intact

image
Hello and welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2026 match No. 14 between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The Capitals will be expecting runs from their KL Rahul-led top-order as they look to maintain their winning momentum against a faltering Titans.

DC have had near perfect couple of games with the ball while 22-year-old Sameer Rizvi has been carrying the bulk of their batting load, having come of age early in the season.

If the likes of Rahul and Co. get into the groove, the Delhi Capitals will become a more formidable unit.

Gujarat Titans' challenges

In contrast, Gujarat Titans are a team that is faltering on both fronts.

Titans have been struggling to shed the top-heavy tag. They should have chased 205 against Rajasthan Royals comfortably but the unproven middle-order could not cash in on the start provided by Sai Sudharsan.

The middle order comprising Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia needs to step up under pressure.

Captain Shubman Gill missed the previous game due to a muscle spasm but stand-in skipper Rashid Khan said he should be fine for their crucial fixture against Delhi.

Having lost their first two games, Titans also need to be more professional in the bowling department. Both Siraj and Rabada have been a tad expensive while Prasidh Krishna has not been consistent enough.

Pitch report and weather

The Kotla pitch usually offers plenty of runs but it wasn't the case in the afternoon game last week with Mumbai Indians managing only 162. It remains to be seen how it behaves on what is expected to be an unusually nippy April evening.

Teams batting first would do well to aim for 170–180, giving their bowlers a total they can defend.

The weather should be pleasant and cool with a light drizzle possible.

Head-to-head record

DC and GT have faced each other in 7 matches in IPL. Out of these 7 games, DC have won 3 whereas GT have come out victorious on 4 occasion.

Predicted Playing XIs:

Delhi Capitals: KL Rahul (Wicketkeeper), Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Sameer Rizvi, Axar Patel (Captain), Vipraj Nigam, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan.

Impact player: Mukesh Kumar/Karun Nair

Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill (Captain), Jos Buttler (Wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Ashok Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.

Impact player: Shahrukh Khan/Jason Holder

Burger to bowl the ninth over. Thakur glides the first ball fine off his pads for a four and then takes one to long-on.

Dhir does well to cut the short ball over point for another boundary before he perishes next ball.

He looks to loft the RR pacer down the ground but hits it straight to Bishnoi at long-on to fall for 25.

The last ball is down the leg side as Deepak Chahar misses the glance but it goes fine off his pads for four leg byes.

Sandeep to bowl the third over for RR. Thakur has a big swing first ball but fails to connect before the pacer bowls a wide.

Another well-disguised slower ball as Thakur has another big swing but fails to get bat to ball.

He finally gets bat on ball hitting the pacer down the ground for two runs followed by another wide.

Thakur (8) falls off the fourth ball as he skies the ball high attempting to slog it over midwicket and Jurel completes the catch.

Rutherford gets a lifeline as he mistimes the lofted shot off Bishnoi but Jaiswal puts down a simple catch a long-off.

Rutherford clips the second ball through midwicket for two runs followed by a wide down the leg side.

A single each to the two batters before Rutherford steers the spinner towards point where Sooryavanshi fails to stop the ball and concedes a four.

The last ball is hit uppishly past the diving Parag in the covers for another boundary to the West Indian.

Deshpande back into the attack. He starts with a slower bouncer which climbs quite high but Dhir manages to ramp it over short thirdman for a four and then takes one.

Rutherford then smashes a full wide delivery over the covers for a six to bring some cheer back to the dressing room.

A poor delivery from Deshpande as he gifts Rutherford a full toss on the body which he despatches over fine leg for another six.

However, Deshpande has the last laugh. He looks to cut the slow off-cutter but ends up getting it off the outside edge and Sandeep Sharma takes a superb low catch diving forward at short thirdman.

Rutherford walks back after a quickfire 25 from eight balls, as MI slip further.

Deshpande against his long-time Mumbai team-mate Thakur, who miscues the full toss off the leading edge for a single over point.
