Hazlewood continued with a disciplined line, keeping Mulder watchful. Mulder leaned forward to defend the first, left the next, and played out four dot balls before finally breaking the shackles with a crisp boundary through cover. A dot ball ended the over - a tight one with just four runs off it. After 6 overs, South Africa were 32/1.
Captain Pat Cummins brought himself into the attack next. Markram worked the ball into the gap at point for a single, rotating the strike. Mulder defended solidly, then picked up a couple of runs with a neat push past mid-on. He was then beaten by a good delivery, but ended the over in style - punching a boundary through mid-off. Seven runs came from it, and South Africa moved to 39/1 after 7 overs.
Hazlewood returned, keeping things tight. Markram defended well before nudging a couple of runs into the leg side. The over ended with another dot - just two runs added.
After 8 overs, South Africa were 41/1, needing 241 more for a famous win.
