Rohit to play Ranji Trophy for Mumbai

Agarkar says most of the Indian players will play in the Ranji Trophy unless they are injured.

Rohit claims that the busy international calendar has not afforded India's all-format players the time to play Ranji Trophy in the last 5 to 6 years.

He added that he will play for Mumbai in their upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir.

'For me personally, Since I've started playing Test cricket regularly, you hardly get time. When you play international cricket regularly, you need time off, just to refresh. Nobody takes it for granted,' said Rohit on whether India's players taking Ranji Trophy for granted.

Will India pick Bumrah?

The national selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, will convene in Mumbai on Saturday to pick India's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.

Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma will address a press conference post the selection committee meeting which is likely to be around 12.30pm IST.

The Ajit Agarkar-led committee have to deal with two tricky scenarios -- the fitness of premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah and how to include Yashasvi Jaiswal in the provisional squad of 15.

Bumrah had suffered back spasms during the recent Sydney Test against Australia and did not bowl on the final day at the SCG and has been recovering since. The selectors along with the team management will ponder deeply over Bumrah's fitness status before taking a final call on his inclusion.

Then there has also been a clamour from all corners to include Jaiswal in the squad.

The 23-year-old is in fine form right now, and he will also offer the left-hand variety at the top, reasons listed in favour of his selection.

But Jaiswal's selection could put him in direct competition with K L Rahul as Rohit, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer are certainties as India's top four.

Rahul can double up as the wicketkeeper and a middle order batter -- a role which he has played in the past with great effect.

The other name that could come up for discussion is that of on-song Karun Nair, who has so far hammered 752 runs in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy at an average of 752 with five hundreds.

The primary wicketkeeper batter slot could be allotted to Rishabh Pant as Sanju Samson skipping the Vijay Hazare Trophy has not gone down well with the powers that be.

The selectors will also seek clarity on star wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav's fitness, as he has been recuperating from a long-standing groin injury.

Kuldeep had shared videos of him bowling in his social media accounts, and that might be counted as a good sign ahead of the selection meeting.

Pacer Prasidh Krishna too could be on the flight to Dubai, where India will open the campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
