Court to frame charges against Jakhar
A Delhi court on Wednesday decided to frame charges
against former Lok Sabha speaker Balram Jakhar for his alleged
involvement in the Rs 650 million Jain hawala case.
In his 189-page order, Special Judge V B Gupta said prima facie there was sufficient ground to proceed against Jakhar, S K Jain, J K Jain, B R Jain and their employee R K Jain.
In a packed court, the special judge fixed September 23 for
formal framing of charges against the accused under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
Earlier the Delhi high court had quashed the proceedings against Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani and Congress leader V C Shukla stating that a diary's loose sheets could not be converted into legal evidence. Applying the same yardstick, the special court has discharged 13 politicians in the case.
However, the special court has decided to frame charges against
Janata Dal president Sharad Yadav who has since moved the high court.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a review petition in the Delhi high court challenging the trial court order discharging these politicians.
