Formers ministers get notices in hawala case
The Delhi high court on Monday issued notices to four former Union ministers N D Tiwari, Madhavrao Scindia, Arjun Singh and R K Dhawan on the Central Bureau of Investigation's criminal revision petition against their discharge by the trial court in the Rs 650 million hawala scam.
Passing the order on Monday, Justice Jaspal Singh asked the former ministers to file their replies by November 10, the next date of hearing, when other related matters including that of Janata Dal
president Sharad Yadav and former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana would be taken up.
In its 329-page petition against the former ministers, the CBI had said, ''There was abundant material which prima facie established that the respondents were involved in a criminal conspiracy to pay and accept bribes for influencing decisions.''
The special judge ''erred'' in holding that there was no
''legal'' evidence, the petition had said. ''For the framing of
charges, only a prima facie case was required to be made out against the respondents.''
