Young lofts Jadeja over the fielder at mid-on but the timing is not that great for just a single. Ravindra sweeps the spinner for another run to level scores.

Young cuts Ashwin for a boundary as New Zealand win by eight wickets.

This is their first Test win in India after a long wait of 36 years, with their last victory coming way back, during the 1988-89 series.

Young played a solid knock of 45 not out as did well under pressure early on, while Ravindra continued his good form with a sparkling innings of 39 not out. The duo put on 72 runs to carry the Kiwis to an emphatic victory.

The decision to bat backfired for India as they were shot out for 46 -- their lowest Test score in a home Test match.

India made a spirited comeback on Day 4 as they raked up 462 in their second innings.

Sarfaraz Khan top-scored for India in their second innings with 150 while Rishabh Pant made 99. At one stage, India looked on course to set the Kiwis a challenging target before their pacers triggered a lower order collapse.

William O'Rourke took 3/92 while Matt Henry bagged 3/102 in a superb spell with the second new ball on Day 4.

India lost their last seven wickets for 62 runs which proved decisive.

This is only the third Test victory for New Zealand in India.

Ravichandran Ashwin into the attack for the first time in the New Zealand second innings, to bowl the 25th over.

Young defends the first two balls before he picks a single to long-on. Ravindra misses the sweep off the last ball and is struck on the pads as Ashwin appeals but nothing much from the others.

Jadeja bowls a quiet over as Young keeps out the first five balls before a leg bye off the last ball helps him keep strike.

Ashwin continues as Young reverse sweeps the off-spinner for a boundary, calmly finding the gap behind point to take New Zealand past 100.

He keeps strike with a single off the last ball down to long-on.

Ravindra keen to finish off things quickly. He sweeps Jadeja from outside the line of off-stump for a single to deep midwicket.

Young picks one off the next before Ravindra miscues the shot as Ashwin dives to his right at mid-off and stops the ball on the bounce for a single.

The next ball is hit straight by Young and Jadeja puts down a simple chance off his own bowling.

Young has looked quite assured against both spin and pace. He hits Kuldeep through the off-side for a quiet single.

Ravindra sweeps the full delivery in the gap through square leg for a boundary as New Zealand race towards victory.

The last ball is drive straight down the ground for a single to long-on.

Turn and bounce for Jadeja off the rough as Ravindra going back to cut is struck on the elbow as he ends up taking evasive action.

The left-hander can't get hold of the sweep shot as the ball goes to deep midwicket for a single.

Young misses the sweep next ball and is struck on side of the neck as the physio is called out.

In the next over, Ravindra uses his feet to drive Kuldeep through the covers for a four.

Two balls later, he again steps down to swap the spinner over midwicket for a four.

The next ball is again clipped in the gap at midwicket for three runs to raise the 50-run stand for the third wicket from 51 balls.

Siraj comes back into the attack in place of Bumrah. Ravindra keeps out the first few balls before he flicks Siraj as Rahul at short midwicket comes up with a diving stop to save some runs, and keep it down to just one.

Young solid in his defence as he blocks the last two balls.

No signs of Ashwin yet as Jadeja continues. The first ball is short as Ravindra slaps it for a single and Young inside edges the next on to his pads.

Spin from both ends as Kuldeep Yadav comes in from the other end. Ravindra hits the first ball to long-on for a single and Young takes one on the leg side.

Bumrah to bowl his eighth over. A fielder placed at short midwicket for Ravindra, who gets hit high on the bat courtesy of some extra bounce but he does well to keep it down.

Another one jumps off length as Ravindra gets hit on the body for a leg bye and Young is beaten off the last ball.

The full length delivery from Jadeja pitches on the rough but doesn't bounce at all as it beats Ravindra and goes through Jurel's pads for four byes.

He attempts the slog sweep next ball but is beaten. Short and wide from Jadeja as the in-form Ravindra rocks back to cut the spinner through the covers for another four as he races to 13 from 11 balls.

Spin introduced as Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack, to bowl the 14th over.

The first ball beats the bat as Young misses the cut but Jadeja has overstepped.

He sweeps the next ball fine on the leg side for a four and then slaps the half-tracker square on the off-side for another boundary to make it four fours in the space of seven balls.

New Zealand are halfway there as they go past the 50-run mark.

Bumrah to bowl his seventh over of the spell, he had bowled four deliveries on Day 4 before play was suspended due to bad light.

He pitches it up from round the wicket as Conway uses the angle to flick it through the leg side for a four.

The next ball strikes him on the pads as Bumrah appeals and Rohit after consulting the bowler and close-in fielders takes the DRS.

Conway was beaten on the defence and struck on the backfoot. There is no edge and the ball has struck in line and going on to hit the stumps.

The decision is overturned as New Zealand lose their second wicket with Conway leg before wicket for 17.

Rachin Ravindra, who stroked a century in the first innings, is off the mark with a boundary as he opens the face of the bat and steers Bumrah past the gully fielder.

Another overpitched delivery as Ravindra plays a stylish flick in the gap through midwicket for another boundary.

He clips the next ball in the gap at square leg for a single to get off strike.

Bumrah gets the ball to move away late to beat Young on the outside edge followed by another play and miss.

The last ball moves away quite late as Young is beaten for the third time in the over.

Conway clips Siraj off his pads as Ashwin puts in the dive to save the boundary and keep it down to one.

Young opens the face of the bat to guide Siraj past point for a boundary. He flicks the next ball as Kuldeep makes a good stop at midwicket.

Siraj bowls and Young is quick to pounce as he pulls it in the gap at midwicket for the second four of the over.

Conway has struggled against the two pacers. This time he plays another loose, looking to drive Bumrah through the covers but is beaten on the outside edge.

The next ball is again full and wide and this time Conway drives it off the front foot with some nice timing through the covers for a four.

Bumrah beats him again with some extra bounce and away movement followed by a leave.

Conway is completely opened up as he looks to flick Bumrah as the ball goes off the outside half along the ground past Jadeja at point for the second four of the over.

Three boundaries in seven balls helped New Zealand release some pressure.

How long before spinners are introduced? Meanwhile, Siraj continues as Young continues to be solid with his defence as he keeps out the first two balls followed by a leave.

Bumrah continues as Young does well to push the first ball into the leg side for a single and Conway is again troubled by the extra bounce as he awkwardly fends it away.

Another sharp rising delivery and this time Conway gloves it on the leg side.

Finally, some Conway gets bat on ball as he defends Bumrah with the middle of the bat into the covers.

He follows it up with a loose shot as the left-hander flashes at a full wide delivery to be beaten, followed by a block.

Young has looked quite assured against the pacers. He solidly blocks the first two balls from Siraj before he leaves the third pitched wide of the stumps.

Virat Kohli turns cheerleaders as he encourages the Bengaluru crowd to increase the decibel level in the stadium.

Young defends off the outside half on the off-side followed by another block.

India have a fielder placed at silly point before he clips the last ball from Siraj off his pads through fine leg for the first boundary of the New Zealand innings in the eighth over.

Young does well to nudge Bumrah on the leg side for a single before Conway gets a knock on the gloves as the ball kicks off sharply from length.

Conway taps the pacer on the off-side for a single before Young clips Bumrah off his pads for two runs as Siraj makes a diving stop at fine leg region to save the boundary.

Siraj bowls a beauty to beat Conway outside the off-stump as he plays away from his body. The next ball keeps quite low as Conway plays and misses again and it falls well short of the wicketkeeper.

10:34   Bumrah's early strike boosts India

Bumrah starts his second over with a beauty. The full delivery swings away after pitching to beat right-hander Will Young on the defensive push.

Young gets New Zealand off the mark as he flicks the pacer square on the leg side for two runs.

Young is hit on the gloves as Bumrah gets some extra bounce on the inswinger before he digs out the full delivery straight back to the bowler and leaves the last ball.

In the next over, Conway clips the overpitched delivery from Siraj square on the leg side for a couple of runs to get off the mark.

The next ball is a cracker -- extra bounce and movement to beat Conway all ends up as he looked to defend.

He drives the fourth ball off the inside half towards midwicket before he plays a loose shot, pushing away from the body to be beaten.

A well-judged leave from Latham as he trust the bounce to leave the back of length delivery which passes over the stumps.

Mohammed Siraj from the other end. The first ball is down the leg side before the next ball is full and strikes Devon Conway on the pads as he misses the clip.

The Indians are all up in appeal but the ball has clearly pitched outside the line of leg stump. No DRS as Paul Reiffel turns down the appeal.

Finally bat on ball as Conway steers the full delivery to the fielder at point.

The left-hander misses the glance as the full delivery strikes the pads and goes fine. A moment of indecision before the two Kiwi batters decide against the single.

Jasprit Bumrah starts off with the ball to complete the first over, which was unfinished on Day 4 because of bad light.

A huge appeal off the first ball as Bumrah gets it to slant away, beating Tom Latham, who pushes at it and is beaten on the outside the edge.

That was the perfect delivery to start off the final day for the Indians.

He strikes with the second ball of the day, getting Latham leg before wicket. The New Zealand captain takes the DRS.

The left-hander plays down the wrong line as the ball jagged in this time around and struck him in line. The impact is in line and the ball is going on to hit the stumps as Latham walks back for a duck.

The Indian players are warming up under bright sunshine at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium while the umpires inspect the outfield.

It should not be long before play gets underway.

However, there is forecast for some rain in the afternoon which should cause some interruptions.

New Zealand will keen to get started and make a positive start with the bat. However, a couple of early wickets for India could make this contest quite interesting.

Commentators Simon Doull and Murali Kartik in their pitch report on the final day say that the cracks have opened up and the Indian bowlers should be happy.

The start of play has been delayed on the fifth and final day because of a wet outfield.

There is no rain at the moment at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium but the conditions are very overcast as the covers stay in place.

There was a lot of rain overnight in Bengaluru but the state-of-the art SubAir system will ensure that the play gets underway without much delay once the weather improves.

Umpires Michael Gough and Paul Reiffel are having a chat with the groundstaff.

The umpires will conduct an inspection of the outfield at 9.45am IST.

Welcome to the coverage of Day 5 of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru on Sunday.

New Zealand are on course for a victory in the series opener as they need 107 runs for victory.

However, weather could play a part. It rained heavily overnight in Bengaluru and there is some rain predicted in the morning.

The covers are in place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium because of the rain.

Accuweather is predicting thunderstorms for a couple of hours from 9am onwards before the weather is expected to clear later in the day.

India made a spirited comeback on Day 4 as they raked up 402 in their second innings after getting skittled out for 46 in their first innings.
