Asian Games Athletics: India win silver in mixed relay

18:40   Ancy wins long jump silver

India's position has been upgraded to silver in the 4x400 mixed relay after Sri Lanka were disqualified.



India's Ancy Sojan wins women's long jump silver medal at Asian Games.

Ancy recorded her Personal Best jump of 6.63m in her fifth attempt to win a silver.

Shaili Singh finishes at 5th spot (6.48m).


Minutes later, the Indian team won bronze in the 4x400 mixed relay.

The quartet of Ajmal, Vithya, Rajesh and Subha clocked a timing of 3:14.34, a new National Record for the podium finish.

Two Indians in action in the women's Long Jump final with Ancy Sojan and Shaili Singh ready to put in the work.

And after three attempts, Ancy is in the 2nd spot while Shaili is in 5th.

Ancy jumped to equal her personal best of 6.56 metres in the 3rd attempt. 

In her 4th attempt, Shaili Singh jumps 6.31m  while Ancy jumped 6.30m. 

Shaili jumps to 6.48 in her 5th attempt to stay in 5th spot.

Ancy all pumped up before her 5th jump and leaps 6.63ms, her personal best, to stay in contention for a silver.  

Shaili Singh jumps to 6.23m to finish at 5th spot.

Ancy Sojan's last jump in invalid but she manages to get the 2nd spot and the silver for India in long jump.

In the Men's 200m final, India's Amlan Borgohain finishes 6th.

He clocks a timing of 20.98s. 

In Women's Pole Vault, Indian Pavithra Vengatesh is outof the medal race as she is unable to clear 4.10m mark in 3 attempts. 


Earlier, India's Parul Chaudhary won a silver medal while Priti pocketed bronze in the in 3000m SC. 

Chaudhary clocked  9:27.63 while Priti completed the race in 9:43.32.

Reigning World Champion Winfred Mutile Yavi of Bahrain won the gold with a Games record timing of 9:18.28 sec.

In August this year at the World Championships held in Budapest, Parul registered a national record in 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:15.31 sec, and in the process qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Indian archers Atanu Das and  Dhiraj  Bommadevara have advanced through to the Men's Individual Recurve quarter-final.

Earlier, star Indian squash player Joshna Chinappa made a shock exit from the women's singles event after losing 1-3 to lower-ranked Heo Mingyeong of South Korea in the pre-quarterfinals on Monday.

The 37-year-old, who received a first round bye, went down 4-11, 12-10, 9-11, 8-11 in 37 minutes to the South Korean, ranked 158th, in the round of 16.

Joshna had won a singles bronze in the 2018 edition of the Asian Games. 

The other Indian in the fray, Tanvi Khanna progressed to the quarter-finals with an easy 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 win over Arichaya Chujit of Thailand. 

The Indian mixed doubled pair of Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh continued its winning run to enhance its chances of making the quarter-final. 

The duo cruised to 2-0 (11-5 11-6) win over Thailand's Anantana Prasertratanakul and Arkaradet Arkarahirunya to stay on top of group D.


Kabaddi: In a big shock, the India women's kabaddi team were held to a 34-34 tie by Chinese Taipei in their opening match at the Asian Games.

The Indians were in control right from the start before the Chinese Taipei women staged a stunning comeback in the last few minutes to leave their opponents shell-shocked.

14:49   Badminton: Easy wins for Satwik-Chirag, Srikanth


The Indian Men's hockey team hammered Bangladesh 12-0 in their Pool A match at the Asian Games on Monday.

Captain Harmanpreet and Mandeep Singh scored hat-tricks.

The Indian hockey team wasted little time to add to their goal tally as Mandeep scores one in the 46th minute, followed by a pile driver by Neelkanta Sharma a minute later to take India lead to 10-0.

Bangladesh defence looks clueless as India keep the opponents on their toes.

India added two more goals late in the 4th quarter to win the match 12-0.



In Badminton, Indias star doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty eased into the Round of 16 after getting the better of Hong Kong's Hin Long Chow and Chun Wai Lui.

Satwiksairaj-Chirag registered an emphatic 21-11, 21-16 victory in a 34-minute round of 32 contest.

Kidambi Srikanth also had no problems in despatchin Vietnam's Phat le Duc 21-10, 21-9 in 29 minutes in the round of 64 clash.

Tanisha Crasto and KP Sai Pratheek outclassed Macao's Chi Weng NG and Chong lok Leong 21-18, 21-14 in the mixed doubles round of 32 match.

India continue in the same vein in the 2nd half as India win an early penalty in the 3rd quarter and Harmanpreet flicks it into the top of the net for his hat-trick. India now up 7-0.

A few minutes later, Lalit missed an opportunity close to goal.

A Bangladesh player gets green carded.

India get another penalty corner three minutes later, as they advantage of the one man deficit in the Bangladesh ranks. 

A superb save on the goal-line denies India another goal.

Bangladesh penetrate into the Indian D for the first time in this half but nothing comes of it. 

On the counter, Abhishek smashes the ball with a reverse stick from the left to increase India's lead to 8-0. 

Earlier, in badminton: Kidambi Srikanth moved into the Round of 32 with a 21-10, 21-9 opening round win.

It's time for some action from the hockey field now as India take on Bangladesh.

And India race to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. 

In the first quarter, captain Harmanpreet Singh put India in the lead, scoring off Penalty corners within the first 5 minutes of the match.


In the 2nd quarter, India continued to apply the pressure and scoring three -- Lalit scoring from a tight angle and Mandeep Singh sounding the board twice.

India keep the Bangladesh defence on their toes as the timer counts down the minutes to half time.

Bangladesh give away another penalty corner and India convert it nicely as Amit Rohidas drives in a powerful drag flick into the net. India go up 6-0.

A foul by Mandeep, deemed dangerous by the umpire, disallowing the goal.

India looking superb on the counter and win another penalty corner. 

Samsher will take it and Varun's push was not good and Samsher puts it wide. India have overpowered Bangladesh in this 1st half.

11:50   TT: Ayhika-Sutirtha finish with bronze


India's Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee went down fighting against North Korea's Cha Suyong and Pak Sugyong in the Table Tennis women's doubles semi-finals at the Asian Games.

Sutirtha and Ayhika suffered a 4-3 (11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 2-11) defeat in the semi-final match to finish with the bronze medal.

In the gold medal match, Suyong and Sugyong will take on South Korea's Yubin Shin and Jihee Jeon, who had beaten Miyuu Kihara and Miwa Harimoto in the other semi-final.

India's canoers and kayakers endured a disappointing outing as none of them managed to secure a podium finish despite featuring in four finals at the Asian Games on Monday.

Niraj Verma finished seventh in the men's single canoe 1000m with a timing of 4:36.314s.

The Indian team of Ribason Singh Ningthoujam and Philem Gyaneshwor Singh finished eighth in the men's canoe double 500m final, clocking 1:54.723s.

The Indian women's teams finished last in the kayak double 500m and canoe double 500m finals.

While the duo of Binita Chanu Oinam and Parvathy Geetha clocked 2:07.440s in the kayak double 500m, Megha Pradeep and Shivani Verma logged 2:17.614s in the canoe double 500m.

09:19   400m hurdles: Ramraj equals PT Usha's national record

India's Vithya Ramraj produced a superb run in the women's 400m hurdles, taking top place in the first heat to qualify for the final.

Ramraj clocked 55.42 to equal the legendary P T Usha's national record, which she had achieved at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

09:19   Santosh, Yashas qualify for 400m hurdles final

India's Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan qualified for the men's 400m hurdles final, after finishing second in Heat 1 with a timing of 49.28. Qatar's Abderrahman Alsaleck, who finished first in the heat with 49.12 also qualified for the final.

Another Indian Yashas Palaksha also made it to the final after finishing second in Heat 3 with 49.61 behind Qatar's Bassem Hemeida.

Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan qualified for the men's 400m hurdles final, after finishing second in Heat 1 with a timing of 49.28. Qatar's Abderrahman Alsaleck, who finished first in the heat with 49.12 also qualified for the final.

Another Indian Yashas Palaksha also made it to the final after finishing second in Heat 3 with 49.61 behind Qatar's Bassem Hemeida.

Meanwhile, India's Mohammed Afsal P took top place in the men's 800m heat to qualify for the final alongside compatriot Krishan Kumar, who also advanced to the final after taking second place in Heat 3.

08:09   India's men, women win roller skating team bronze
India's roller skaters clinched two bronze medals in men's and women's 3000m team relay events to match their best ever performance at the Asian Games on Monday.

The women's team of Sanjana Bathula, Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Heeral Sadhu and Aarathy Kasturi Raj opened India's account on the ninth day of competitions, finishing  with a timing of 4:34.861s.

The Indian quartet finished behind gold medallists Chinese Taipei (4:19.447) and South Korea (4:21.146).

Aryanpal Singh Ghuman, Anandkumar Velkumar, Siddhant Kamble and Vikram Ingale then sealed a second bronze with a timing of 4:10.128 in men's team relay. 

Chinese Taipei (4:05.692) and South Korea (4:05.702) took the top-two spots.

Indian roller skaters had won two bronze medals at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games in men's free skating and pairs skating events.
