Tulip Joshi made her debut with the 2002 Yash Raj film, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. She disappeared for a while, and came back with Anant Mahadevan's Dil Maange More last year.

But now the candy floss is gone. Tulip currently features in the critically acclaimed Matrubhoomi, by Manish Jha, which releases on July 8. She spoke to Patcy N about the film. Excerpts:

Matrubhoomi speaks about female infanticide, a major issue.

It is a situation where, because of female infanticide a village is left without any women, which leads to frustration and anger. It is about the emotional, physical trauma that men would have to face.

And in this situation, they discover a woman who gets married to a family of five brothers. What happens next is about dowry. The dowry system that exists in the country, in this movie, is reversed, where the father, out of greed, sells his daughter to a family of five brothers.

Tulip changed her name to Sanjana in her first film, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, a desi version of My Best Friend's Wedding
