Dhoni slammed 27 from 18 balls but was unable to steer his team past the finish line as England's pacers tied him up with the good use of the short deliveries.

The major difference in the match was the death bowling by the two teams. India's bowlers were taken apart in the final overs as they were smashed for 82 runs from the last five overs. In comparison, England's bowlers gave away 42 runs in the last five while picking up two wickets.

A sweet revenge for England, who made up for their loss in the five-match ODI series.

Dhoni pulls the next ball but it is stopped at deep midwicket and the Indian captain sprints back for two as Rayudu is stationary at the batting end. He is forced to go for the second and is helped by a poor throw.

Dhoni mistimes the pull and refuses the single. 9 needed from 3 balls

Dhoni top edges the pull shot and it carries over mid-off and goes all the way for a boundary. 5 needed from 2 balls

Dhoni has a wild swing but fails to make proper connection and refuses the single to deep square leg. 5 needed from last ball

Excellent last ball from Woakes as Dhoni can only get a single off it as England win the match by three runs.

England emerge winners of the only T20 International to end their summer on a high.

The left-armer then misses the yorker and bowls a big wide outside the off-stump.

Rayudu then comes down the track but fails to connect and gets a leg bye.

A low full toss and Dhoni slams it through midwicket for a much-needed boundary for the Indians...18 needed from 9 balls.

Gurney bowls another full toss which Dhoni strokes to sweeper cover for a single.

Rayudu then shuffle across and attempts the paddle sweep but misses out as Gurney bowls a crucial dot ball.

He misses a low full toss off the last ball and Dhoni is not interested in the single.

India need 17 runs from the last over for victory.

Dhoni looks to pull a short ball but is beaten by the pace and is struck on the shoulder to pick up a bye.

India continue to slip as Jadeja is run out trying to steal a second run after Dhoni sends him back after initially deciding to go for it.

Finn continues to bowl short at Dhoni, who again misses the pull and is hit on the body.

New batsman Ambati Rayudu also attempts the pull but gets an inside edge for a single on the off-side.

Gurney then bowls an unplayable yorker as Raina is unable to keep it out and is bowled after scoring 25 from 20 balls.

Ravindra Jadeja walks out to bat ahead of Ambati Rayudu and he retains strike with a single from the last ball.

Just five runs from the Gurney over as England continue to build the pressure. India have scored 16 from the last three overs and need 35 from the next three overs for victory.

Finn comes back and he strikes with the key wicket of Kohli. The right-hander, who slammed 66 from 41 balls, came down the track before he pulls a short ball straight into the hands of fielder at deep square leg.

India still in control with 50 needed from 34 balls with seven wickets still in hand.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni gets off the mark with two runs on the leg side as Finn concedes just five runs in his third over.

India need 46 runs from five overs for victory.

Ali drops short which Raina pulls to short midwicket for a single followed by two more singles as 12 come from that over.

Kohli finally gets a half-century in England!

Kohli finally gets to the coveted half-century mark in his final innings in England after a disastrous showing in both the Tests and ODIs. Before this he just had a fifty but that was in the practice one-day match but other than that he failed with the bat throughout the tour.

Kohli got his first fifty on the tour from just 34 balls before he gets an inside edge to the next ball from Woakes which goes past the stumps for a boundary behind the wickets.

Kohli then steers it past point for another boundary as India continue to make good progress in the middle overs.

After 13 overs, India are 118 for two, with another 63 needed from seven overs for victory.

Tredwell has done well in his first two overs and continues to keep the runs down. Just two singles from the first three balls before Raina gives charges and lofts it over midwicket for a six followed by a single to long-on.

Kohli picks a single on the leg side before Raina pulls a short ball but is unable to beat the fine leg fielder to get two runs. The left-hander retains strike with a single from the last ball.

Shami misses his length as Bopara flicks the low full toss over midwicket which bounces just short of the ropes for a boundary.

Another full toss is sent crashing through the covers for a boundary by Bopara as Indian bowlers continue to struggle in the death overs.

Shami fails to learn from his mistakes and bowls another full toss which Bopara flicks over midwicket for a six.

He is beaten off the last ball as Dhoni runs out Chris Woakes off the last ball as they look to steal a bye.

England finish on a mammoth 180 for six in their 20 overs with Bopara unbeaten on a quickfire 21 from eight balls.

India's bowlers struggled in the end as England hammered 82 runs from the last five overs to post an imposing total.

Morgan was on 15 from his first 15 balls before going on an all-out attack to slam 40 from the next 12 balls.

Mohit attempts the slower ball but Bopara has read it early and chips it over the leg side for a four. Two balls later, Morgan smashes a full toss through the covers for another boundary to take England past the 150-run mark.

England have taken charge in the last few overs, getting their last 50 from 21 balls.

Morgan lofts the fifth ball straight down the ground for another six as the boundaries continue to flow for England.

The last ball is a full toss and Morgan heaves it over the leg side for another maximum as Mohit goes for a massive 21 runs in that over.

England have struggled to maintain the tempo against the spinners. Root comes down the track to Jadeja and hits it through the covers for a couple and does the same off the next delivery.

He slog sweeps the third ball but Rayudu covers good ground and sends in a quick return to keep it down to one.

Hales then slogs it high into the stands over midwicket for a six, his third, to race to 40 from 24 balls.

He then comes down the track but mishits it as Rahane charges to his left and comes up with a stunning catch diving full length to his left.

Hales walks back in disbelief after a cracking innings of 40 from 25 balls, having hit three fours and three sixes.

Rahane has played a part in all three dismissals as India's fielding, except for Ashwin's drop, has been top class.

England are 76 for three in 10 overs with Root on 25 from 24 balls and Eoin Morgan yet to face a delivery.

Debutant leg-spinner Karn Sharma comes into the attack, replacing Shami, who took one for nine in two overs.

Root makes room and drives the first ball down to long-off for one, while Hales punches the next down to long-on for another single.

Root takes a couple of steps down and turns it on the leg side for one before Hales defends the fourth.

The fifth ball offers a bit of width as Hales cuts it square on the off-side for a boundary to take England past the 50-run mark.

Another slower ball which Hales drives to mid-on and sets off for a quick run as Ashwin is slow to get to the ball.

Hales drives Shami down the ground for one before Root nudges it round the corner past short fine leg for a four.

Root (8) top edges the pull shot and it goes high in the air on the leg side but a misunderstanding between Ashwin and Raina results in the easy catch being put down by the former. There was no calling by either of the fielders as both went for the catch.

Root retains strike with a single from the last ball of the over.

England lose another wicket off the first ball of the next over. Moeen Ali chips it straight into the hands of the fielder in the covers to walk back for a first ball-duck as the hosts lose two wickets in two balls.

Ali seems to have been caught in two minds, whether to go over the fielder or defend it, and in the end played a nothing shot.

Joe Root, who hit a century in the fifth ODI, gets off the mark with a delightful flick through midwicket for a boundary from the fourth ball of Mohit's second over.

He is beaten off the next trying to smash it through the off-side as it nearly misses the edge.

Mohit then foxes Root with a well disguised slower ball as the right-hander comes down the track but is unable to make any connection.

A good comeback from India after Ashwin went for 17 runs in his first over with England scoring 14 runs from the next three for the loss of two wickets.

Ashwin is taken off the horror first over and he makes way for Mohammed Shami, who bowled well in the ODI series.

He starts with a good yorker which Roy defends before taking one on the leg side and Hales takes one to mid-on.

Roy then has a wild swing but is unable to make a clean connection. He tries to loft the next ball over the off-side but holes out to Ajinkya Rahane in the covers to fall for eight.

Superb first over from Shami, giving away just two runs while making the breakthrough for India.

A dream start for England as Hales and Roy hammer Ashwin for 17 runs in the first over as Dhoni's gamble backfires.

Mohit Sharma comes on to bowl the second over. The first ball hits Roy on the pads before hitting the bat but the LBW appeal is turned down with the impact looking to be outside the line of the off-stump. A bit of extra bounce and movement too as Roy blocks it on the leg side for one.

Three dot balls before Hales spoils a good first over from Mohit by lofting the last ball back over the bowler's head for a straight six.

England have raced to 24 for no loss in two overs.

A surprise from India right at the start as off-spinner Ravichandran opens the bowling and facing him are two young openers from England -- Jason Roy and Alex Hales.

Roy defends the first ball before reverse sweeping the second ball square on the off-side for a four. The third ball is short and Roy rocks back to punch it through the covers for two runs and turns the next to deep midwicket for one.

Ashwin again errs with his length and Hales crashes the half-tracker through the covers for a boundary. He sweeps the last ball behind square on the leg side for a six as 17 runs come from the first over.

Welcome to the coverage of the one-off Twenty20 International between India and England in Birmingham, on Sunday.

England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat.

India have gone in with three spinners with leggie Karn Sharma handed his international debut. He did not get a single in the recently-concluded ODI series, which India won 3-1.

Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was rested after a lot of bowling in both the Tests and ODI series with Mohit Sharma coming into the team to replace him.
