Basketball Without Borders
July 9, 2008
The weekend's big announcement came Saturday night, when FIBA President Bob Elphinston revealed that India had been selected to host the inaugural Commonwealth basketball championship in 2010, an event separate from the 2010 Commonwealth games.
Reacting to the news, BFI Secretary General Harish Sharma called the announcement a "proud moment for (Indian basketball)." He added that, "Because basketball has been named a priority sport by the Indian government, we will have the financial and administrative support to make the 2010 championships a huge success. We're all very excited."
