BMX gears up for Olympics debut

Several new events have been added to the programme for next month's Beijing Olympics, including BMX Racing. These new events include the women's 3,000 metres steeplechase, women's foil and sabre team events, men's and women's marathon swimming 10km and the replacement of the doubles events in table tennis by team events.

The IOC is also looking to bolster the popularity of the 2012 London Olympics by squeezing skateboarding into the programme, not as a new sport but potentially as a new discipline falling under the control of the International Cycling Union.
