Tamulpur tense but quiet after killings

The situation in curfew-bound Tamulpur police station area of Assam's Nalbari district remained tense but quiet on Wednesday, official reports said.

An indefinite curfew was imposed on Tuesday after suspected Bodo militants killed five persons, including three women and a seven-year-old girl, in Natunhowli village and later burnt down three houses on Sunday.

Reports said security forces, including the army, continued round-the-clock patrolling and combing operation to flush out the militants. No fresh incident has so far been reported from the area since on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Nalbari district Koch Rajbongshi Sammilani and Nalbari district Joch Rajbangshi Students Union jointly called a dawn-to-dusk district-wide general strike on Thursday in protest against the attack.

The army also intensified operation in extremist-dominated Nalbari and Darrang districts killing the leader of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland in an encounter in Mohanpur village of Darrang district on Tuesday. Two other militants were also apprehended from the trouble-torn Tamulpur area, the report added.
