Sarath Kumar's giant political leap

February 12, 2008
Another speaker reminded the crowd that Kamaraj had started noon meals for school children, but the present DMK government had started liquor shops.

Speakers repeatedly referred to him as 'Nattamai,' a character that he portrayed in one of his successful movies.

The conference deplored the regional violence in Mumbai. It passed resolutions on everything from compulsory education to jobs for all and pledged to make rural India strong enough so that rural people need not immigrate to cities.

The resolution also dealt with national issues like the nuclear deal, linking of rivers, women's reservation and the war in Sri Lanka.

Sarath Kumar's speech was full of drama, as was expected from the movie star and a man who had canvassed votes for the AIADMK, the DMK and the Congress at some time in his political career.
