What was impressive about the conference was that the average age of speakers was 40 years. In the DMK youth conference, the figure was around 65. The same could be said of the AIADMK and Congress too.
The conference brought to light a new element in Tamil Nadu politics. Photos of leading figures from every party -- Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Ambedkar, Annadurai, Kalam, MGR, Periyar and Kamaraj -- could be seen at the conference venue.
Radhika, in her speech, mentioned that her husband was very helpful like MGR used to be.
Seeking to avoid a war of words on MGR, she sarcastically added, "I am not calling him his heir -- let there be no misunderstanding."
