The struggle had a reflection on their family life too. In the process, young Dhiren got distanced from his conservative father. Dhiren's elder sister got a degree from Nottingham University and is now working in a reputed firm.
At school Dhiren was interested in fashion and music but he was average at studies.
It is not known how and who converted him to Islam but Gujarati community leaders in London are not at all surprised by Dhiren’s story. A community leader told rediff.com, "Gujarati parents are aware of the risk of clandestine conversion activities on college campuses since the last 7-8 years. Barot converted to Islam after he started attending college."
