"Why is God so unkind to us? Why are we given so much pain? Am I living life only to wait for death? This is unbearable."
This is what Bharti Manubhai Barot said after her son Dhiren was found guilty of being an al Qaeda operative and sentenced to 40 years in prison. A British court upheld the police charge that he was planning to blow up landmark institutions and buildings by using limos/trucks packed with gas tanks, napalm and nails. Barot was also found plotting to attack the New York Stock Exchange and the World Bank headquarters in New York.
The Hindu who turned into an Islamic fundamentalist was the first senior al Qaeda operative to be convicted by a British court.
