The man who shot the Pope
The assassination attempt has, unsurprisingly, led to a lot of writing. Not so long ago, Agca claimed to be working on a book about the incident.
John Paul also mentioned it in his memoir Memory and Identity, saying his life had been saved by divine intervention. "Agca knew how to shoot, and he certainly shot to kill, yet it was as if someone was guiding and deflecting the bullet."
Interestingly, for fans of pulp fiction, the plot of Tom Clancy's Red Rabbit (2002) features the shooting. Agca is not specifically mentioned, but the novel goes into detail about an alleged KGB involvement.
