The man who shot the Pope
In 1983, Pope John Paul II met and spoke to Agca privately in the Italian prison where he was being held. The Pope asked people to "pray for my brother (Agca), whom I have sincerely forgiven." He even met Agca's mother in 1987 and his brother ten years later.
When the Pope died on April 2, 2005, Agca's brother said his entire family were grieving. Agca wanted to be there at the funeral, but Turkish authorities rejected his request.
