Shibu Soren's time of reckoning

December 02, 2006
In an unprecented development, former coal minister Shibu Soren was found guilty on Tuesday of involvement in the killing of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha 12 years ago.

Soren, who resigned almost immediately after the verdict, is currently in Tihar jail.

After the court order, the 62-year-old chief of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha complained of uneasiness and was taken to a civil hospital near Tis Hazari court where he underwent a routine medical check-up. Soren was taken to Tihar after doctors declared that his condition was normal.

The issue rocked Parliament on Wednesday, with the Opposition targeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for inducting 'tainted' ministers.
