hree years after the gruesome murder of Nitish Katara, key witness Bharti Yadav returned to New Delhi from London to record her statement in the case's most significant development.
In her in-camera deposition, Bharti, who was allegedly involved with Nitish, has denied that they were anything more than friends. She also denied her own previous statements about being in love with Nitish.
Nitish was kidnapped from a wedding that he and Bharti were attending in 2002 and his charred body was found on the Delhi-Agra highway three days later. Bharti's brothers Vishal Yadav and Vikas Yadav are the prime accused in the case. Her father, D P Yadav, is a prominent political figure.
In her deposition, Bharti denied that an affair with Nitish and therefore, dismissed the possibility that he was disliked by her family. Interestingly, though she could be said to have turned hostile, Bharti's statement has been welcomed both by the prosecution and the defence.
