Credit goes to the memorial's supervising architect Vincent Esch for designing a plaque that speaks of the history of India as it were during and after Queen Victoria's reign.

Carved out of black marble, the figures on the plaque represent the powers that ruled India in the early 20th century.

Esch also set up an elegant bridge on the north side of the memorial leading to the gates to its adjoining gardens.
