It is tough to be an automobile photographer, admits Satyajit. "It involves a lot of risks. The shoot is all about big budgets, big agencies and big clients. You have to be very responsible because the planning involved is tremendous. But then, getting the job itself is difficult because they are all handled by big agencies and senior photographers."
Satyajit's first break came when Mitsubishi offered him an assignment to shoot a Lancer. That was followed by offers from Enfield and Ashok Leyland, and then an assignment for the aviation industry.
One thing that makes the dancer-turned-photographer different is his creativity. "Creativity is linked to my passion for automobiles and the outdoors. The sense of movement and rhythm I could achieve in my pictures was only because of my training in dancing and choreography."
Whether one's talking cars, bikes or planes, automobiles clearly are a passion for Satyajit. And yes, when you look at his pictures, it shows.
