His first guru in the world of photography was Kaarthik, who glanced through some of his photographs and said, "Satyajit, you are good enough to be a professional. Why don't you consider it more seriously?" That was the turning point.
"His words made me think. I was very passionate about photography and very committed too. Nothing bothered me when I was in a dark room and shooting, but, on the other hand, I was very selective about dancing. It is not that dancing does not give me a high, it just does not give me a high as often as photography does. Maybe that's because there was too much of dance all around me. I started feeling saturated. I realised my world was restricted to just dance -- dancers, critics, friends and musicians. You don't see the world around you. Also, I was the prince in my own world!"
