Ahmed Kathrada (right) is a veteran participant in South Africa's struggle for freedom and against apartheid.

He was actively involved in Nelson Mandela's campaign against racist laws and along with the latter, was sentenced to life in prison. He spent 26 years in jail as a political prisoner. He was elected MP in 1994, in South Africa's first democratic elections.

He is also a recipient of the highest award given by the ANC, the Isitwalandwe Award.
