India honours its children

Professor Sunil Khilnani (left) is director of the South Asia Studies Program at the Johns Hopkins University. A globally renowned political scientist, Khilnani served as a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Centre in Washington, DC.

He is known for his stellar contribution to political thought and for fostering the understanding of India through his scholarship.

Dr Sant Singh Virmani (right) is an internationally renowned rice scientist known for his work on hybrid rice for tropical countries.

He was invited to become chief consultant of the ICAR-UNDP project on development and use of hybrid rice technology in India and also worked in countries like Nigeria and Philippines.

Prof Alokeranjan Dasgupta (below) teaches indology at the South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg, Germany, and is actively engaged in translating Bengali poetry into German and vice-versa.

He is closely associated with the Deutsche Indische Gessellschaft, a premier institution that promotes close links between India and Germany. For his efforts he has received many awards, including the Goethe award in Germany and Rabindra award.
