The USS Cushing is armed with Tomahawk missiles, a MK 41 Vertical Launching System, Harpoon surface-to-surface missiles, NATO Sea Sparrow Missile System (for defence against air targets) and two 5 inch/54 calibre gun mounts.
The offensive component also comprises two triple barrelled torpedo tubes and two Light Airborne Multipurpose System MK III USW helicopters.
The warship is manned by about 350 personnel. Female crewmembers joined the ship in 1993.
